We heard noises in the wall of our bedroom a few days ago.  We went out to look and it seems we have some glorified rats (squirrels) living in the wall.  There is a hole in the wood upstairs.  Anyway, DH has been rapping on the wall outside with a long pole every so often to make the squirrels uncomfortable so they will go away.  This morning when we woke up there were no noises from the wall so he decided today was the day we should cut the hedges down because that seems to be how they are getting in.  My DD was out in the garden and saw two squirrels trying to figure out how to get back up there.  I would think they could climb the wall.  Anyway, it was quite entertaining and they never managed to get up the wall.  Now we have to repair that area.  Did you know those little buggers will chew on hardy plank?       4951

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA:  YES... They eat my Hardi-Plank!!! Had to replace several areas!!  And that is CEMENT....  I have lots of squirrels cause this crazy old lady a few houses down from me has been feeding them for a million years!! I heard them in my walls too a few weeks ago...(maybe flood related) and I banged on my walls and they stopped.  They woke me at 3:00AM being very loud!! Never happened before.... and has not happened again..   I checked the outside of my house.. and could not figure out where they got in..  May need to call an exterminator??

I really think squirrels are cute and all but they are just glorified rats with a bushy tail.  They are so destructive.  Not only do they chew hardy but also the lead covers over the pipes sticking out of my roof.  I just don't see how there are so many of them.  I would think they would die from lead poisoning if not from eating the concrete in the hardy.   4951

There is an organic spray you can get and do it yourself rather than an exterminator.  Had squirrels in my attic and the exterminator to rid them was $1,000.  The organic spray is non-toxic, safe for kids and pets.  Used to be able to get it at the do it yourself extermination store on 1960 near Italiano's in Humble.  Was well worth the $.  Squirrels and maybe roof rats are gone and not come back. 4951

Yup! Those nasty effers have chewed around our upstairs windows. We just took down an oak tree with a couple of nests and a whole lot of acorns - hopefully that displaces them! 4951

I had them chew a hole near one of the post on my porch.

Instead of fixing the hole with more wood, I used metal and waited for them rascals to climb that pole again, and they did.

The shock they had when they saw metal was priceless. 4951

Cut all branches etc close or hanging over the house. Remember their leap and cut back a ways.
They love running the rail of the fence and basically using it like scaffolding.
Yes cute little rats in disguise.
Our neighbor has feeders and they nest in our huge old oak. So far no issues on my side of the fence.
We have a cat issue on the street behind us. Damn lady and another man in another house have cats. Last count at one of the houses (that we could see) 15 freakin cats. Yuk

Just be glad its not raccoons.  Trapped some out of our attic last year.  They tore up everything.  You can buy squirrel and rodent traps at Tractor Supply.  4951

They will eat anything and do anything to get in your house.  I recommend a good gamo pellet gun with a scope.  Pick them off and then throw them in your trash can.  Edited to add:  Thrown them in your OUTSIDE trash can. Sometimes, you only think you got them with that first shot. 4951

I am sure they would make good gumbo or stew, but I'm not taking the time to skin them.  Too much work for too little meat, for me at least.  I'll save up my skinning patience for the post-apocalyptic time when I don't have a choice.  Emoticon 4951

LOL!  My dad has fond memories of hunting squirrels and taking them home for his grandmother to cook.  She would make a stew or fry them.  He loved it!   I have to wonder why we don't do that anymore?   4951

I suspect folks in the rural areas still do.  I know my childhood friends that live in the backwoods of Michigan where we grew up hunt red and fox squirrel every year.   4951

They somehow got into my parents house a few years back. My brother would shoot them with a BB gun. My dad finally trapped them and repaired the hole, but it took forever. Those litter suckers are relentless. 4951
