I have a high schooler who is interested in taking up tennis and we have no experience with the sport over here.  Can anyone recommend a good starter racquet?  I don't want to spend a ton of money on equipment since I'm not sure she'll stick with it.  4951

You should be able to find a nice light Head racket for well under $100. If she sticks with it and likes it, upgrade. But to start, get a light Head racket. 4951

Borrow a racquet until she sees if she likes it.    4951

@monyhoney:

I just put my oldest's first racquets out at the curb on Monday.  They are gone.I agree with something less than $100, Wilson or Head.  Go to Dick's in Humble, as they have a lot to choose from.  Lighter weight is probably best to start with.  4951

@Traveler500: Then you should know they only come in a couple of sizes.  If she is going all-Pro immediately by all means spend money on a racquet.  It sounded like she wanted to try it. 4951

@Traveler500: Yeah, if you go to a sporting goods chain store around here you will probably find two sizes per gender - $49 to maybe $150.  Amazon or a tennis site some more options.Don't let me talk you out of buying just figured you wanted to see if it takes.  4951

Very true.... She just needs to see if she even likes it.... I was just pointing out that a young girl won't be able to use a racquet for a larger man...or she can't grasp it well enough to have fun. My hand used to be really tiny when I began at age 7... So my Dad had my racquet sized for me at our Tennis Club. My Dad had HUGE hands.... so I could never use his.. We would take our racquets when we travelled ..  (or he MADE me take mine actually. LOL) but that's another story.............. 4951
