As most of you have heard by now, there was a fatal, officer-involved shooting at the new Shell gas station in Kingwood Monday afternoon. According to authorities on-scene, at around 1:30PM on Monday, October 16, a
Montgomery County PCT 4 Deputy tried to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle for unregistered tags. The driver failed to stop and sped away at a high rate of speed. At one point, the Deputy lost sight of the motorcycle. However, the suspect was located again by a second Deputy a few minutes later and another chase ensued. As the suspect came into Kingwood, he wrecked the motorcycle near the intersection of Kingwood Dr and Chestnut Ridge. The suspect got up and proceeded towards the brand new Shell gas station. He then approached a citizen who was using the car wash and repeatedly tried to take his vehicle. The deputy, in foot pursuit now, caught up to the suspect and deployed his taser. The taser had little-to-no effect on the suspect. The taser did cause the suspect to turn his attention away from the victim in the vehicle though...and towards the officer. At that point, a struggle began. During the struggle, the suspect reached into his backpack and pulled his hand back out, pointing a handgun at the Deputy. The Deputy drew his gun and fired, striking the suspect multiple times. The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Joshua Clayton Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Deputy was not injured, nor were there any injuries to nearby witnesses. HPD said that Kingwood Dr would be closed for most of Monday until the scene could be cleared by investigators. The investigation will be handled by HPD, with the help of the Texas Rangers.
