We have Direct TV. Decided today to try to get local channels with an antenna. 50 dollar antenna from Walmart, installed in the attack and I was able to get 79 channels. The only one would not come in was Channel 2. Back to Walmart and bought a 20 dollar booster. Now four TVs hooked up with 130 channels. Most are the channels that you don't watch, QVC, ect. All the network channels are working great. HD digital. So next step is to get that dish off the roof. With Hulu, Netflix, and the Antenna, should be set. Just need At&t sports net to get an app, so I can watch the Rockets.

We cut the cord awhile ago, but have yet to add an antenna. It would be nice to have some of the local channels. Which one did you get from Walmart? 4951

@crawdaddct: We had an antenna for years.  I loved it!  Then we had to have high-speed internet service, so DH signed us up for Suddenlink.  It is too expensive!  I want to go back to having an antenna.  We really hardly ever watch TV.  It's such a waste!

Ww cut the cord in 2010 and haven't looked back.
Watching Austin City Limits jusr a bit ago.
Now some Nashville club show.
.
My friend's dh cut the cord last week, bought some antenna you stick on the window. Just yesterday he told me how please he was to be rid of the cable and how he doesn't even miss it.
.
Funny what we can live without if we just decide to make the effort.
Years ago I quit goin to bars too. Why pay $7.50 - 15.00 for a captain and coke when a whole big bottle is 20. Besides it tastes so much better sitting by my pool.

we have Suddenlink just for internet.

@crawdaddct: So, can I get good internet service if I don't also have cable with them?  I'm going to have to look into the price for just internet service.  I think it's time!

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA: It not good, but the same as with cable.  😄They keep the same line hooked up.  One thing I had to do is remove the splitters and extra wires, they had on the line for the internet cable.  They left all the connections from when we had cable with them.  It helped our internet a lot to simplify the wiring.  Don't know why Suddenlink didn't do it to start with.  Unlimited internet for us is like 90 dollars a month.  Too much, but can use all we want.

We don't have internet hard wired to the house. We have our hot spots on our phones to do all that. We have AT&T so it's added to the bill. I'd have to look up particulars but really it isn't that much. We've never ran out or had an over charge. My dh was saying it was around $15 a month. 4951

A cool device I came across a few weeks ago is HD Homerun. It's about $100. You hook the antenna into it, then hook it up to your network, and you can access all of the antenna channels through iPad/iPhone through their app. Add in Plex and you can watch the locals on Roku as well use plex as a DVR.  4951

We have the radiant barrier insulation in the attic, so an antenna would not work well with us.

If you have a HDMI cable outlet on your TV, you can hook up your computer to it. Then watch just about anything for free.  4951

@Hickory: I think you would have to decide first where you want it installed and what type of antenna. Putting it inside the attic would likely work fine if you went that route but ideally you want it 25-30 ft off the ground and with a booster plugged in. Any general contractor / handy man could do it. Very simple job. I don't think there is a business that installs them though. Maybe Dan on here could help you.    4951

How much is the subscription? Also looks like you have to buy a storage device. So this is an interface to record live TV and also watch it on some phones right?   4951
