I have it and it is a nightmare. My premiums went up from 150 a month to 380 a month. Harris County is one of the most expensive counties in Texas.

The ACA, the Affordable Care Act, is not affordable. 4951

Exactly the same with me. I dropped it bc ain't NO ONE got time for the red tape, the beaurocracy and the constantly increasing number of docs jumping ship. I was not able to keep any of my docs. Every year, you have a whole new batch bc last years providers have left.

It's crap with a capital C. 4951

damn $380 a month is cheap, we pay $1180 a month for the family with a high deductible and had to find all new Drs. I agree health ins is not cheap. I would rather just pay cash for the few visits we make a year, in fact we did this very thing, We found a Dr. that took cash for a procedure that was needed last year and it was cheaper than our portion if we put it on our health ins plan. We would rather have a catastrophic plan. 4951

When I was working for a major oil company, my healthcare premiums were somewhere around $400/month but it was excellent insurance. Now, we both are on Medicare with the KelseyCare Advantage plan. We only pay the $100/month each (give or take) to Medicare and KelseyCare handles all of the paperwork.  The copay to see our PCP is $5. To see a specialist is a $20 copay.  Of course, only Kelsey Seybold accepts this plan but all of our doctors were at Kelsey Seybold already.  Of course, if we move away from Houston, we will need to change Advantage plans. We pay extra for a Medicare Supplemental plan in case of major illness and to get a Part D prescription drug coverage.  KelseyCare offers Part D coverage, but they offer several levels for different costs.  The problem is that you have to use a Kelsey Seybold pharmacy. They also don't have drive-up windows. That would not be very convenient with the Kingwood KS closed due to flooding.  With our Part D coverage, we can use Walgreens or CVS.  At CVS, we can get 90 day prescriptions filled.I highly advise anyone on Medicare to look into Medicare Advantage plans.  My father and older sister were on a Humana Advantage plan in Baton Rouge and they were both happy with their plans.I am so glad that I don't have to deal with ACA.  A good friend just retired in Baton Rouge but is too young for Medicare, so he will have to face ACA for a few years. 4951

$380 for 1 person isn't too bad, but I wouldn't call it affordable either. A friend of mine pays about $700 just for herself and it has high deductibles. Luckily my company has good cheap insurance and I don't have to deal with the ACA. 4951

MIL/FIL on the Kelsey plan and like it. We make too much $ to be eligible for healthcare.gov, which is another topic all to itself. I pay cash for Dr visits, and most procedures. I call day before and ask cash price. Ex wife got cortizone shot in elbow Thur. Walkout with shot and visit $170. Submitted to Meritan Ins, $775 stupid, stupid, stupid. 4951

The biggest problem with the whole ACA thing and I guess Insurance in general is that your premiums are based on what ZIP code you live in. So what that means is if you live in Harris County, we are also paying 4 the illegals and ones who can't afford any kind of coverage. In other words were paying for everybody else. Go up the road to another County and they don't have to pay any premium. 4951

@gigem09: Your employer subsidizes thus making it cheap for you.  What is the total monthly cost of the insurance you get through your employer? 4951

@luv2eatsushi:  There is a Kelsey Sebold clinic named Summer Creek on the Beltway west of Wilson Road.  It's fine for doctor's appointments but I have to have frquent blood tests and it's a bit of a pain to drive there for 5 minutes.  I certainly hope they reopen the Kingwood clinic soon but I heard it was still months away.  If you look up Kelsey Seybold on the internet, you'll see they have numerous clinics all over Houston.  Other than Kingwood, the closest is Summer Creek, the next is in Spring.  Their main clinic/campus is just west of the Medical Center.  Our PCP was at Kingwood and is temporarily at Summer Creek.  They have Specialist that see patients outside of the main clinic for 1 or 2 days each week.  I see my Cardiologist at Spring and my Endocrinologist at Summer Creek.  It beats the drive to the main clinic!Kelsey Seybold is partnered with St Lukes, which is a great hospital.  The main one is in the Medical Center, plus they have one in the Woodlands.
