I'm stumped-put in a load of whites before I head to the golf course today (it's a rough life I live). Everything is fine (the matching sheets-white shorts/socks/towel ect) except these 2 pillow cases-got yellow (way yellower than the pics show). I do put some bleach in (weinie dog sleeps with me and his corner gets a lil dirtier than normal)-washed them 30 times or so (they are a yr old higher priced JC Penney sheets) with no issues. WTH? If it was something in my washer why are they the only pieces that got stained? And its strange that it's BOTH of them-but nothing else? Would bleach do that? If so-why only the cases?
Yes, bleach can leave a yellow stain. Here's a fix:For yellow stains on fabric that have already settled, saturate a clean white cloth with distilled white vinegar and blot the stain until it has soaked through. Next, simply rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary. 4951
and if you want to take it a step further, after the vinegar treatment and final rinse...(this is a copy & paste from google, I haven't done this myself, but do know others who have, with good results)Step 3 - Lay Them Out to Dry This step is very important and dictates how well removal of the yellow stains will work for clothes. It is best to wet your fabrics first before laying them outside to dry in the sun. The sun's rays and oxygen given off by grass and plants counteract bleaching and will help provide a better overall stain removal. The optimum time for drying to take is between four to six hours. After this, the fabric should be restored to its original quality. 4951

@cador: Just soak them overnight (yellow ones) in OxyClean. Then wash them in the washing machine. It works for me.Â
@mm4731: I run the washer first, once there is some water I pour alil bleach in-then put the clothes in. Not sure what happened (weird it was only the 2 cases)-but I appreciate all the advice on getting the yellow out. 4951
