The word on the street is that the owner of Kingwood Cove Golf Course in Forest Cove is trying to work a deal to sell the course to a developer to build as many as 300 houses on.Makes me pretty upset, but I'm not sure what could even be done about it. It is private property and not part of the Forest Cove HOA in anyway. Im not sure if zoning comes into play here because I dont know how any of that works. While I'm not really an avid golfer, my house backs up to the course and currently has a beautiful view (one of the reasons I bought it), and the thought of a new neighborhood or apartment complex being built there really bums me out, not to mention what it would do to my property value.I also worry about increased flooding (which is bad enough already) in the neighborhood  if its developed, because right now the course allows tons of run off and also acts like a giant sponge. 4951

Seems odd to develop on an area that will flood again. 4951

Same thing is happening to the 3 golf courses on River Plantation, with the same worries from my friend who's house backs up to the golf course. She has a gorgeous view and so peaceful sitting on her patio. The word there is the potential buyer wants to build patio homes. Hopefully with River Plantation flooding, they will rethink building on the golf course.  Because of this flood, you might use that angle to stop any building - contact any government entity and file complaints. I doubt the City of Houston will do anything - they would want more homes built so they can have more tax money, but maybe the Harris County Flood Control, Corps of Engineers, etc. 4951

Thats what I think too, but it seems like harris county just keeps issuing permits for these areas regardless of flooding, or else we wouldn't have that new costco over there.Ive also been told (before the storm, by Dave Martin himself) there is a large development planned to go in around Berrington.  Every house in Berrington flooded. 4951

Oh no. Not apartments. This is ridiculous. I don't want to live with that kind of traffic around. 4951

@sweetie: I haven't heard apartments specifically, just houses, but at this point I feel like anything is possible.Im just feel sick about the whole thing, we discussed it a little at the HOA meeting last night which got my wheels turning about it. I was tossing and turning all night over it. 4951

@ForeCPA90:  Yes, but WE are neither greedy developers nor equally greedy bureaucrats holding out their hands for a bribe.

This defies all normal thinking. Why on Earth would anybody build 300 new homes on an area that is going to flood. Specifically after everything that has already happened. 4951

As far as I know the only area of that course that flooded was down along Hamblen.  Has pretty good elevation, was it more than that? 4951

Save up, buy land, put the house in the center. That's what one of my brothers did. He got tired of being right next to someone in his big cookie cutter house. And he said that neighborhoods only go one way...downhill.I'm not to that point....yet Emoticon 4951
