Question for parents out there do any of the kids at kpark bring a laptop to school? My son is pestering me for one I'm not thrilled about the idea. Are kids really allowed to work on a laptop at school and do they really bring them ? 4951

I don’t know about laptops but I know they’re far more lax about phones now. I graduated 2011 and back then if a teacher caught you on your phone during school hours they would confiscate it and make you pay $25 to get it back, my younger sister said now they’re allowed to have them whenever. 4951

@nycoil:

Kids also use google drive to host and download all kinds of things to get around the district safeguards....

The district actually hands out wifi passwords to students for personal devices?

I would advise an entry level Windows machine over a Chromebook any day, they have access to all the google stuff plus much more and are overall more versatile and adaptable in the future. 4951

   At KHS the kids use their phones.  The school gives them their Wi-Fi password so they do not use up their Data.   All the kids I am aware of type their papers, etc at home on a laptop or use the school library IF they need a laptop.    For looking up info,,, a cell phone should be fine.  I have 2 kids at KHS, and neither of my children have asked for school laptops... and BELIEVE me, IF anyone else had one, MY KIDDOs would be asking me for one!! (Lol)   I'm ashamed to say they had iPhones by 6-7th grade cause EVERYONE else had one. 4951

@podunkall students (k-12) have network passwords.  while not perfect, the student and guest networks are pretty locked down.  when my son would take his trumpet lesson at khs, I would sit in the parking lot and surf on my phone or tablet.  there were sites I could not go to to read some news stories, one off the top of my head was any of the radio stations that had stories on iheartradio...go figure.  but no filter is going to be complete.  someone would have to man it 24/7 4951

if you look, you can get a chromebook for $200 and sometimes less.  I would rather give a kid that and if it gets dropped or even stolen, no big deal.  all the work is stored on their google drive and by the time they graduate, then get them a nice laptop for college. 4951

@beandawgs: I have 2 that graduated there, and 2 more that are currently there, none of them had/have a laptop. I sooooo love telling them that there wasn't even a computer *in* my high school. At all. Not one. And somehow I managed to graduate speaking the English and git me a job
