@FoFaI have had a raccoon enter my attic in Illinois. It was only up there two days but left an odor to be dealt with. They set up an area to use as their latrine and it does not smell good. If it gets into your ceiling's sheet rock you may want to cut that away and replace as there is no way to fully rid the smell. Also replace any insulation that is affected. These are good reasons to have them evicted as soon as possible. The smell can attract others as well.Good chance they are in the attic now, as they are nocturnal, so they will sleep in the attic during the day and go out at night. I wouldn't go into the attic because if they are there it could be dangerous. My trapper did not enter my attic when we did not know for sure it if was in there. I highly suggest getting someone knowledgeable to help set traps and remove them. A trapper set traps outside my house and in the attic. It was the ones outside that ended up getting them. I had put on VERY loud music as soon as I realized there was one up there and left it on for 48 hours straight. It moved him out of the attic. I had read that sometimes you can rid them with loud heavy metal, though I didn't have heavy metal so I just used what I had. My trapper caught and removed three adult raccoons. I know only one had gotten into the attic but he wanted to catch any that came along in my back yard to ensure others would not try and enter. I had a natural long grass prairie and forest behind me, so lots of wildlife there. He kept the traps set until we went a good three weeks with no more caught. 4951
