There are so many people devastated from flooding with limited money and resources it really bothers me seeing people with half million dollar homes asking for financial donations. 4951

@jpm:

Just because someone has a large home doesn't mean they can afford it. Some people are "house poor". The nice thing about donations is you can choose where you donate to. 4951

@jpm:

I agree, they chose to have a want and not take care of needs.

@Stealth83:

I agree, too! Way too many people around here who feel they have to "keep up with the Joneses". Sorry, but if live like that, you are only one disaster, major health problem, or job loss away from losing everything. Always wise to live within your means and save money for emergencies. Yes, I realize there are people who lost everything, who could have never anticipated the unprecedented floods we had, but when you're already over extended, you're just asking for trouble! 4951

The thing is..they have a big beautiful housr that they are struggling to afford..you can debate the righteousness of that all day, but suddenly, even if through bad planning, they are now homeless, everything in their life destroyed and gone. No way they can even begin to rebuild that but they are no more and no less destitute than someone that lost a $500 car and their cheap apartment that flooded. Now the ones that can write a check for the value of their home..they aren't asking for money but if they are, shame on them. 4951

I do feel sorry if they flooded and have lost most or everything, but you only gamble with what you can afford to lose. Trust me, I have friends who lost everything, too, but they live within their means. 4951

So if living within their means, i assume they have paid cash for home and cars... 4951

For me it is people who work, as able, have insurance, focus on needs and budget.

I can be want poor and need rich and Im good with that.

@Stealth83:

If the people have insurance, they don't need help. They have the means to rebuild what they need. That wasnt the question. 4951

I don't know many people that can handle a total loss, regardless of how much their home cost. 4951
