My 5 year old frequented your establishments almost daily. We always passed your businesses on our way home from soccer practice or school. Today she saw the pictures of the destruction and cried for over an hour. She hurts so much for y'all and misses y'all already. She was the brown headed little girl usually with her father. Always wanting candy only at the berry bar and wanting queso at Sharkeys and bread at Zammittis. Please know she is hurting for you all and prays y'all come back soon. Love always from the Gutierrez Family! 4951

@nrangel06: i have had so many good times taking my son to Berry Bar. We went there almost every week. I am so sad for the owner and really hope he will be able to open back up.

People liked it back in the day. A lot of deals fell through to renovate it but seems like it is going to happen this time in British Columbia. globalnews.ca/news/2 415437/mcbarge-is-on -the-move-to-its-new -home/    4951

GoFundMe is going to take a chunk of change out of those donations. You may want to close up that account and use YouCaring.com instead. No fees. 4951

@hangrygirl: Are you related to @v1kings28? Throughout all of the posts on the flood, I see an over abundance of Berry Bar gofundme link posts. You might want to consider working together and be mindful of over-saturation for this one request.

There is a ton of need in the area, but this one request for this one business is literally everywhere on this forum, both with dedicated Berry Bar threads and even on others for other businesses. The repetitive requests could negatively impact them and no one wants to see that. It's out there in many places. People see it. 4951

Especially since said business was literally ON the lake/river.  If it wasn't fully insured, that is the owner's fault.  Floods are horrible, but if you build something in the 100 year flood plane, and plan on it lasting 25 years, there is a 25% chance you will lose it.  Expecting your patrons to pay to rebuild is insulting.  And if you are insured, like you pretty much HAD to be, then it's bordering on slimey. 4951

@Jason23: I think that was pretty much insulting. If you read other comments within the thread, flood insurance would not cover that unfortunately. Many people who have been to the berry bar, and other surrounding areas are more than willing to help in any way that they can. If you don't want to, that's fine, but no reason to kick a business while they are down.

@Nope:

I wasnt going to respond to his comments. Like i said previously the owner of the berry bar (my father in law) Joseph didnt ask for any handouts and never would. My sister created the gofundme as a way that her and her friends in idaho could help out and she could be sure that donations would find their way directly to the berry bar. There are other funds set up for raffas etc. I appologize for "spamming" the boards as it is not my intention. Just wanted to help a locally, family owned business with no corporate backing from shutting their doors. I know other family's and business' need help too. Our whole community is hurting. 4951

Not kicking the business.  FLood insurance covers flood damage.  If they didn't have that, that's a HUGE issue for them.  It won't pay for lost business.  But they KNEW 2 things when they built their business right on the water.  They could charge a premium for their food because of the swanky location, and they could lose it all in a flood. 4951

@Jason23: They also could have set aside an emergency fund for such a time when the unattainable flood insurance would be needed. Sort of like most households do with rainy day funds. Thriving businesses on the water taking such a risk all these years could have built up quite a nest egg.

From what I've heard and read, it sounds like that is what Raffa's did, and likely what he referenced as the small reserve they are relying on for clean up.
