Besides the usual things that are must haves, I found these to be very helpful.
Solar lights ( the cheap $2 ones)
I stuck them in empty flower pots and put them outside during the day. At night I'd stick them in the bathrooms.
Battery candles and my big coleman lantern. A couple years earlier we found these ballcaps at lowes that had built in lights. Those things are 11 yrs old and still are used nightly to take the big guy out, etc.
Nobody said you can't spread some Christmas joy with your lights too.
AC adapter fot the car.
We were able to plug into the cigarette lighter and turn it to a 110 outlet. Works great for an electic fry pan etc for a quick bite, coffee, tv, stereo, computer and phones.
Eggs, cheese, butter and veggies can stay on the counter un-refrigerated.
Our only serious need was ice. Big bocks of ice. So start freezing your water. It's still drinkable but double duty.
We never did loose water and that was a blessing. During last years floods (we rolled to Florida in June last yr) having to haul buckets to the toilet sucked. I had to take a bath in a 32 gallon tub and was allowed a gallon to wash and a gallon to rinse. My hair is 40 inches long and just stayed plopped on my head once washed.
