They are trying to get it fixed but as many know Public Works is very busy. -------------------------------UPDATE: 8/31, 4:00PMLoading Image...Road Info...59 AT SAN JACINTO: Even though the water is off of the San Jacinto bridge, there is still some work to be done before it opens. However, TXDOT is now routing traffic off 59 at the Townsen Blvd exit to continue north on the feeder/494. The southbound side feeder is open as well. Kudos to TXDOT for getting that done quickly!  Emoticon We'll update you when the highway bridge itself opens. For now, be patient as it may be slow at times.W Lake Houston Pkwy is cleared and open now! Kingwood Dr is completely open from the front all the way to East End Park. As the waters recedes, residents are starting the cleanup process. Here are some tips to help with that:- Whether the water is deep or shallow, floodwaters are dangerous. They can carry debris, pollution, sharp objects and nasty critters. Keep children out of floodwaters, wash hands thoroughly, and disinfect or throw out items that have come in contact with floodwaters.- Whether your yard got a little wet, or your house has water inside, be SMART about cleaning up the mess: Wear gloves and dispose of items that cannot be thoroughly cleaned.- There will be many stray animals and ‪pets because of the ‪flooding. NEVER approach unfamiliar animals.- The floodwaters brought more than just damage and debris. Mosquitoes will start breeding in standing water. Dump/clean out containers with water (birdbaths, buckets, toys, pet bowls) to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.FEMA...Sign up for FEMA disaster assistance HERE!! If you are unable to access the internet, you can also call 1-800-621-3362. As flood waters recede, district staff are assessing each campus and working with authorities to determine when closed roadways will reopen. Under the best-case scenario, the first day of school for students will be Thursday, Sept. 7. The district is working around the clock to reopen for the well-being of students, families and our community. We just received word from the District Manager of the Town Center Apartments that all Rent payments will not be due until September 15th. Also, they have a team on stand by in Dallas to come and look at the situation and look into getting their tenants to another apartment if needed as soon as possible.-----------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 12PMKINGWOOD ROAD CONDITIONSIMPASSABLE: Travel is NOT possible heading east passed Woodland Hills on Kingwood Drive due to high water.IMPASSABLE: Travel is NOT possible heading south on West Lake Houston passed Rustic Woods Drive. PLEASE DO NOT come to West Lake Houston and Rustic Woods unless you have a boat to launch. All other vehicular traffic is causing a delay in launching our rescue efforts.IMPASSABLE: Travel is NOT possible East of Woodland Hills Drive on Kingwood Drive all the way back to the Lake. There are still several feet of water. Additionally, travel South of the intersection at West Lake Houston Parkway and Kingwood Drive is impossible for vehicles. The shopping center at Main Street Kingwood (new HEB) still has deep water as well. Emoticonlease stay safe and avoid these areas as rescues are still very active and any additional traffic impedes their efforts.-------------------------------UPDATE: 8/30, 10:00AMLET THE SUNSHINE IN...Loading Image...Adios, Harvey...And don't let the door hit ya' on the way out! The rain has stopped and floodwaters are starting to SLOWLY recede. However, this doesn't mean run out and drive around town. HPD is still asking residents to shelter in place unless absolutely necessary. Both Kingwood Krogers are open. The Kroger at Northpark and W Lake Houston Pkwy is only allowing 25 people in at a time due to minimum staffing inside. HPD is getting many calls asking if water levels have gone down in the Kingwood Greens and all the apartments around the Magnolia Cove and Bens Branch area. W Lake Houston is still blocked at Rustic Woods Dr and there is no access to any of the areas listed above. To find out if your loved ones who have been evacuated and taken to NRG Center from Kingwood area shelters you can go to RedCross.org. Once there go to the tab "Get Help", then click on "Contact and Locate Loved Ones", then scroll down to Family in the US where you can list yourself as safe if you are an evacuee or Search for a family member. You can also call 866-526-8300 and select option 3.For up to date information on Disaster Assistance which includes FEMA, Shelters, Housing, Insurance, Legal, Health and Safety, and Home Repair, please visit the Harris County Recovery Network - HarrisRecovery.org--------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 10:00PMCurfew...Consistent with the Mayor’s directive and to keep and maintain order in the city, a mandatory citywide curfew has been implemented, which will be in effect from 12 a.m. (midnight) until 5 a.m.Officers who encounter an individual in apparent violation of the curfew should stop and investigate to determine the circumstances warranting their presence in the public domain.  Officers are expected to exercise their discretion relative to these encounters and to take whatever action is most appropriate.  Emoticonersons involved in flood relief efforts, flood relief volunteers, individuals seeking shelters, first responders, and persons going to and from work (late shift workers) are exempt from the curfew. This order will remain in effect until further notice.  Houstonians will be advised when the curfew is lifted.LEO Imposters...There are disturbing reports that people impersonating Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents are knocking on doors in the Houston area telling residents to evacuate -- presumably so these imposters can rob the empty homes. Real HSI officials wear badges that are labeled "special agent," which members of the public can ask to see and verify. ICE officers with Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) also wear badges labeled with ERO Officer. They also carry credentials with their name and organization. Members of the public who receive such visitors should ask to see these properly labeled badges, and their credentials. In addition, these officers and special agents would be conducting hurricane relief operations with other local law enforcement agencies. Also note that during Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is not conducting immigration enforcement operations in the affected area. To report suspicious activity or individuals you believe are impersonating ICE officials, members of the public should immediately contact ICE toll free at 866-347-2423.-------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 7:30PMWe need volunteers, food, water, toiletries, pillows, and blankets to head to Fallbrook Church located at 12512 Walters Road this is a Kingwood specific shelter. This shelter is ONLY FOR those that are being transported from Kingwood we are counting heads on the buses to make sure we can control the flow into this area. We need supplies only and will take care of getting Kingwoodians to the location. Again we need food, water, toiletries, pillows, and blankets.-------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 3:00PMThe LSC-North Harris shelter is full but continues to accept those in need.  Box drinks/juice bags for kidsTowelsTravel-sized toiletries – shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushesPet kennels, leashesPackaged snacksExtension cords/power strips They are not in need of clothing and pet food at this time. Donations can be dropped off at the LSC-North Harris Digital Technology building. For family members and friends wanting to check the status of those registered in shelters, please call 866-526-8300 and select option 3.--------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 11:45AMFor those who are wanting/able to donate items, Creekwood Middle School is accepting supplies to distribute. Please note that this location is NOT a shelter, but they are able to get supplies to those that need them. Anyone with medical training is also requested to be onsite to assist as needed. Staying positive...Harvey is on his way out the door, which is nice. It's still raining now but it's way less than before and will probably stop late tonight/early tomorrow morning. Loading Image...Some more good new is that SJRA has slowed the rate of the water coming from Lake Conroe even more. It's now at 22172 CFS. That's 1/3 of what it was yesterday, The San Jacinto River is expected to crest at 69 ft...And it's just about there. That means water could start receding very soon.Hang in there, Kingwood...We're almost through this mess. -------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 9:45AMThe Kingwood location took on water overnight and will not be shelter at this time!!Lone Star College-North Harris (2700 W Thorn, Houston, TX 77073) will be opening as a shelter at 11:00a.m. today. Individuals can go in through the Hurricane Drive entrance and go through to the Digital Technology Building and the theater will serve as the shelter location. The Command Post contact number is 281-618-5651. That number can be used to get further information or anyone looking to volunteer or donate supplies can call that number to coordinate. Loading Image...Loading Image...HPD is coordinating helicopter rescues with the National Guard and asks that if you have high water and need evacuated, please get on the roof to be seen from the  helicopter. Also, get something bright to alert the helicopter with like a white towel or shirt. The rescued are being dropped off at the Tomball fairgrounds. Holy Comferter Lutheran Church located at 1901 Woodland Hills Dr. in Kingwood has offered to shelter people from the storm and high water if you can get there.-------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 7:30AM59 is completely impassable at the San Jac...Loading Image...Loading Image...Loading Image...Loading Image...Loading Image...{ Shoutout to our secret reporter BooBear for gathering these. Emoticon }HPD is asking if you have a boat and want to help, come to W Lake Houston and Rustic Woods this morning for staging.Good News - SJRA has slowed the rate of the water coming from Lake Conroe to 55138 CFS.Not-So-Good News - The west fork of the San Jacinto River is now reading at 67.69 ft (feet above sea level). That is just enough to take its place in first as the highest ever recorded. Yes, even more than the '94 flood.  Loading Image...Loading Image...--------------------------------UPDATE: 8/29, 1:00AM Kingwood High School has taken on water tonight. We do not know the severity of the issue yet, but we'll try to contact HISD as soon as possible...Loading Image...IMPORTANT SHELTER INFO:Houston City Council Member Dave Martin has secured the use of Lone Star College Kingwood's Gymnasium for the use as a Red Cross shelter located at 20000 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339. It is now open and can be used as a secure shelter. This evening there is no food but we do have water on the way. We are coordinating with the Red Cross to have supplies delivered tonight. No evacuations have been issued for Kingwood. We still encourage residents to shelter in place. Should high water rescues be needed please contact the HPD Citizen Line by calling 832-395-1820. There will be NO night time water rescues with the exception of medical emergencies, our boats are not equipped with appropriate lights to conduct nighttime rescues. At first light we will have a brigade of boats to assist with all high water rescues. We have secured shelter volunteers at this time but if you are interested in volunteering please send an email to kwsheltervolunteers@gmail.com with your name and email address. We do not have a need for supplies at this time but if you wish to be alerted when the shelter is in need of supplies please email kwsheltersupplies@gmail.com with your name, email, and what you are willing to donate. We are only seeking volunteers and donations from residents with high water vehicles (lifted trucks) at this time. When the need arises the shelter will need donations of individual snacks, water, clothing (clean clothes, undergarments, socks), blankets, pillows, towels, toiletries (deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes), phone chargers, Clorox wipes, feminine sanitary products, infant and adult diapers, baby formula and baby food.Additinally, Creekwood Middle School will be open as a transport location at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017 to transport residents directly to Lone Star College Kingwood. Again no evacuations have been issued for the Kingwood or Lake Houston Area at this time. Huge thank you to the Lone Star College System and Lone Star College Kingwood for the use of their building. I grew up on Long Island in New York and we had some pretty serious hurricanes growing up. Am I the only one who is not losing my mind over this? I also don't understand how people don't have General stores kept at their home in terms of food. I agree that we should prepare but I think some people are just going over the top. Am I the only one? 4951

Definitely a lot of over-the-topness.  I still haven't made it to Spec's though, so you may hear me panic and lose my mind before long if the shelves are empty.  4951

The last cat 3 I was in threw a tree straight through my house so I am a little nervous. I lived in Florida then and was just as close to the coast as we are now.

I made sure I took inventory of the cupboard, bar, flash lights, batteries and water. We cleaned up the yard (mowed, cut some braches and swept the street near the drain) and started looking around for anything that could fly with a strong gust of wind. Getting any laundry cleaned now.

I'm more worried about losing power since we have outages on clear, calm days here. I'm nervous but it helps to think ahead and prepare. 4951
