When and why did protecting/preserving the integrity of our voting system become a bad thing?

Because Ameica is the proud melting pot of all nations and peoples is the very reason voter ID must be required.

The notion it disparages the poor is asinine. Free ID's for the asking. As for the poor - impossible to obtain aid of any kind without an ID, so Im not following the reasoning behind anyone being against making sure only legal citizens cast votes in America. Of course voting without a valid ID does make cheating easier but I can think of no one who would stand for that. 👀

@Ruger5: What does it matter?  If there has been widespread voter fraud, we would have heard about it by know.  Geez, the Republicans wont let this go.  Surely if they had some real evidence they would have shown it to us by now.  The problem is, that without that evidence voter ID laws smell like racism.  They just do.

ID laws smell like racism

@TXWhiskyTango:

Why? I show ID to get a rental car...get a hotel room....cash a check....get on a plane....get medical attention. That does not appear to be racism just common sense. 4951

@ET: None of those examples are rights.  Voting is.  I think the fact these laws keep getting struck down should say something.  Especially when they have been coupled with measures like restricting same-day registration, which recently happened in North Carolina.  These kinds of laws are clearly designed to discourage voting. It makes me wonder why Republicans don't want people to vote.  I don't understand why keeping people away from the ballot box is common sense.

@TXWhiskyTango: that's funny. The left REFUSES to acknowledge it.

It's like not performing regular audits at the bank and then claiming, "No one has counted any money missing so why do you want to audit the funds?"

Of course there is voter fraud. There is just no will from the left to put measures in place to stop it and there is no will on the left to investigate it. I wonder why.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! The left have been claiming health care is a right now for the better part of a decade.

You have to have a ID for just about anything from collecting SS to Disability or if you want welfare or food stamps.  If you don't have at least 1 of the accepted ID's I don't think voting should be very high on your priority list. I bet even some bums have a ID. 4951

I don't understand why knowing who those people are isn't.
I am fine with everybody eligible voting once and will take my chances in a fair vote. Only makes sense to take precautions to ensure that happens. I really don't understand the pushback, unless it is an interest in fraud. 4951
