Hello allWanted to throw this PSA out there: my car was rifled through and a few things stolen in the Mills Branch neighborhood.Items stolen- green army backpack, large over ear headphones, and a pretty awesome (really regret having in the backpack) army knife with the words "operation Iraqi freedom" printed on the blade.Keep your cars locked and all valuables hidden fellow kingwoodians! 4951

Had that happen on several streets in Woodstream a couple of weeks ago.  Cameras showed thieves to be young teens.  In each case, vehicles weren't locked. 4951

According to HPD that is the biggest problem we have in Kingwood. Folks not locking up their vehicles. 4951

I would think the biggest problem we have are the thieves. We should be able to leave our cars unlocked. Be nice if some of these thieves were caught . I know 2 were caught recently but looks like we have more. Ugh 4951

@sweetie:  What's sad is that, judging by camera pics, they appeared to be only 15-16.  Starting down the wrong path early. 4951

Yes they are. I wonder if their parents know they sneak out to do this. 4951

Pretty bold- my car was deep in my driveway with a motion light

Car unlocked yes, pretty dumb on my end.

Overall there was much more that could of been taken from the car so its a lesson learned for sure!

Hopefully the parents notice their kids walking around with a bunch of new gear 4951

Yes we should be able to leave our vehicles unlocked. However this is Houston, irrespective of the fact that is Kingwood. Common sense.

Leaving your car unlocked and with valuable items in plan view is not a problem strictly related to Houston.  It's a basic problem of stupidity in a Kingwood resident. 4951

Yes, you are better than us.  I accidentally left my car unlocked so I deserve to have it rifled through.  Yes it did happen to me, in Mills Branch, about 6 weeks ago.  I warned my neighbors.  Luckily, I don't keep anything valuable in my car.  All they got was spare change.  If I see them again, there will be Hell to pay... 4951

Hey it's an HPD statistic. Most of the BMVs are unlocked vehicles.

Ridiculous, it is my property. If I leave my car or house unlocked with the doors open, no one has the right to come in and take what they want. That is called stealing! 4951

[quote-tag-mismatch][quote-tag-mismatch] Most of the BMVs are unlocked vehicles.[quote-end-tag-mismatch]@luv2eatsushi: I got to watch 2 perps on video from Lifetime in Kingwood a few years back as they were caught on tape stealing from cars in the lot.  I knew the manager at the time and he let me watch the film since my truck was hit, although it was locked.  The rest that were hit all had open doors that they just opened.  It was pretty well planned out.  One dude walked around the lot with a flashlight and would shine the light in the cars looking for open sight items to grab.  If a person walked out, they turned the light out and hid behind a parked car.  The other perp just hung out in an escape car and kinda followed the one with the flashlight around.  After they had like 5 or 6 cars, the dude with the flashlight just opened the doors of them going from one to one in sequence.  Then they hit mine last with a hammer on the driver side door glass and then opened the door with the alarm going off.  The only thing he did was open my center console.  I guess looking for a pistol, which was not in there, but on me.   Then he got in the other car and left.  This was all about 0530 in darkness.

Moral is, lock your doors.      4951

Right, it just makes it easier for them to do so.  4951
