I couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw this article.  No wonder Detroit is in such sad shape.Detroit — Half of the eight
mayoral hopefuls on Detroit’s primary ballot next week have been
convicted of felony crimes involving drugs, assault or weapons, a
Detroit News analysis shows.Three
were charged with gun crimes and two for assault with intent to commit
murder. Some of the offenses date back decades, the earliest to 1977.
The most recent was in 2008.Political consultant
Greg Bowens said there are candidates with past hardships in every
election cycle. It’s not something unique to Detroit or the political
arena in general, he said. For the full story, click on the hyperlink below:http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2017/08/02/half-detroit-mayoral-candidates-felony-convictions/104244406/ 4951

Despite her past encounters, Pitts said she supports law enforcement:
“There’s a lot of good officers. I just ran into a couple bad
situations.”Indeed. A lot of good officers in Detroit. Maybe electing former felons can get the bad ones out once and for all. They know all the tricks of the trade.     4951

@Retired_Engineer: Most of our poor large, inner cities are run by democratic mayors. Check it out. While at it compare democratic verses republican run cities. Democrats don't know what the bleep they're doing. Case close.
@Ruger5: Of the 20 largest cities in the U.S. only 4 have Republican mayors with San Diego, the 10th largest, being the largest and that is not a large city.  A beautiful town, yes, a city no, and it has never had an inner city component to it.  Due to its location and climate it just never happened.

While I was going to college, the Mayor of Monroe, LA was convicted of some type of corruption.  I think he spent about 2 years in prison.  When he got out, he ran for Mayor of Monroe and won!More notably, the case of Marion Barry and Washington D.C. was absolutely absurd. 4951

@Ruger5:  Mayors aren't elected just for inner cities.  They represent the entire city.  However, I know that large inner cities tend to vote Democratic.  Why does every subject come down to Republicans vs. Democrats, or liberals vs. conservatives?  Respectfully, is your thinking process really that limited?

The Governor and several large city Mayors all went to jail when I lived in Connecticut. Mostly on bribery charges but one Mayor was convicted for trying to have sex with his prostitute's 13 year old daughter. Good times.

@Retired_Engineer: Did you ever have lunch at "The Kitchen" or hot dogs at the "inner city" joint that closed about 10 years ago?  When in Monroe stay and eat west of the Ouachita for dinner and eat have breakfast at the Waffle House north of I-20. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: Now now, I like to think that I have a fairly well rounded thought process. No need for snarkiness here. As for democrat versus republican - sorry, they're the major players in our political system and until that fact changes, it pretty much IS democrat versus Republican. Of course there are exceptions but most of us identify with one platform or the other. I fail to understand the annoyance over Democrat versus republican, honestly. Simply a means of identifying of whom I'm speaking when engaging in political conversation. Nothing more, nothing less.
@Ruger5: Do you know anything about the platforms of the candidates for mayor of Phoenix the last time one was elected?  If you do, kudos, if you don't...you were not engaging in informed political conversation and you should stop claiming that you do so until you are able and willing to do so.
