Has anyone had any experience with neuropathy?  Any testing done by neurologist? Heard it was painful if not done by a good tech/Doctor.What treatment was prescribed?Did it work?Recommend a neurologist in the general Kingwood area?  4951

My dad had this. He was a diabetic. He took neurotin and it helped him tremendously. His feet felt like he was being stuck with needles. My mil had it too. I told her about neurotin and she took it too. Neither had a dr here as they didn't live here. Good luck to you. 4951

It's a prescription. It's called neurontin. I'll change my spelling. Worked great for both of them. 4951

@mom82:

I hope all is well with you. My niece went through the chemo and had chemo "fog" where she had a little short term memory loss but the "fog" is gone now and is fine. I wish you the best. If you need anything , please let me know. 4951

Dr. Khanh Nguyen is an excellent neurologist in the Kingwood/Humble area.  Neuropathy can be well managed with medication, usually Neurontin or Lyrica, but underlying condition must be addressed so that it does not worsen.  Usual suspects are diabetes or poorly controlled hypertension.  Sometimes neuropathy is idiopathic which is very frustrating. 4951

He is a really personable, good doctor. When I had to go to the hospital a couple of years ago, I told the primary that I wanted Dr. Nguyen as my neurologist. 4951

I think I have a spot on my big toe from my antibiotic reaction? Showed up about a week ago- thought I had a dog hair stuck in my toe-just a tiny needle prick feeling. It's subsiding on its own.

I also have a crushed nerve right below my knee from a bike fall. If THATS what neuropathy feels like then you have my sympathy- it goes along fine for a time and then boom- searing hot pain and tingles. I've gotten used to it-

Good luck at the neuro- I too have heard the tests are painful but if it gets you answers and then relief it will be worth it 4951

I prefer treatment by a physiatrist (PMR) to treat not just the symptoms, which gabapentin (Neurontin's brand name) but also address the functional limitations that may result.  If the neuropathy is related to treatment for cancer Dr. Jack ** at M.D. Anderson is a specialist in t  He only treats cancer-related cases. 4951

@plakata:  At my doctors recommendation,  I've tried to take Gabapentin twice for my back pain.  The first time lasted only a week because it made me feel so weird (lightheaded, dizzy, clumsy, etc).  Gabapentin takes time for your body to get adjusted to it.  The second time lasted a month but I didn't feel any help in my back but I still had the same issues.  I could not drive while I was taking it.My wife was given it after her knee replacement and she has no problem with it.Gabapentin was designed to prevent seizures but was also found to have other benefits for most people.

My appointment is with Dr. Nguyen [the senior, I think]Both he and his son are highly recommended.Need to switch to son according to some advice.  He speaks English better than father, if that is any consideration.This all started with left knee replacement.   Since then I have had two series of shots in my spine [no help] and spine surgery [between 4 & 5] still not help  Surgeon suggested Neuropathy check.I suspect that the problem could have been aggravated by a physical therapist who did some back stretches during therapyThanks for all the information on meds etc.It is what it is, but!. 4951

Dr. Thai Nguyen (Dad) speaks very good English but has a very heavy accent.  If you do well with Asian accents, you should have no problem.  Son speaks without accent. 4951
