Call poodle rescues they may have one. Also try Maltese rescue. Maltese is also hyperallergenic. Good luck

We have been wanting a puppy for a long time but the kids were too young. Now that they have grown some we would like to get a puppy, we have considered rescue but we need hypoallergenic since one of the kids has asthma. Prefer to get a puppy so kids can be along for the growth and training. Anyone know any good breeders for Labradoodles or Goldendoodles? Thanks in advance

@Jwm:
No guarantees of labradoodles or golden doodles being hypoallergenic - they are basically mutts and it's a toss up which genes comes forward - despite what "breeders" will tell you. They are high priced glorified mutts. My dd was a groomer and some came through with poodle coats and some came through with Lab or Golden coats.
Go with breeds that are known for being hypoallergenic.

Better yet - surpass the dog. If your kids have asthma why risk their health. And what will you do when you get a dog and their asthma gets worse and you have to get rid of the dog? Another dog to rehome or go to the pound.
The rescues, shelters are so inundated - people overworked and overwhelmed trying to save animals. Not being critical just being realistic. I've seen it so many times- must rehome- child allergic. Not fair to the child not fair to the dog.

What many people don't realize is its not always the breed.  Depends on the individual and immune system....AND its the pet's dander people are most allergic to.  Many times correct and appropriate bathing and grooming is the answer.  (Frequently and furminating.) 4951

@JwmContact a rescue and offer to foster.  You can let them know you are interested in puppies but please be open to adults. You will find that most are already trained and make the best pets without all the puppy drama!  Most kids promise to help but in reality, you will be the one to do the training and all the clean up.I found a labradoodle rescue and a goldendoodle rescue when I googled.I know there is also a poodle rescue. 4951

With all the dogs that need homes, I hate to hear the word breeders.

I always wonder why people need a certain breed dog, all my dogs are rescues and I take more pleasure in knowing they needed me. 4951

Awww I want a puppy too. I would love a Bernese mountain dog. Anyone know someone who sells them locally? Haven't had a dog since I was a child but since I been happily divorced for over 20 years, 2 out of 3 kids are on their own, so I feel I'm ready to care for one now.

@lisa0044:

I love that breed but I can not have a dog with that short of a lifespan... 7-8 years is not long enough..... 4951

The only "benefit" of breeding a Golden or Labrador to a poodle is that you are upping the chances of hip dysplasia.  Stay with the poodle for non shedding and high intelligence.  Always fun to start with a puppy.  Do a google or yahoo search for breeders in this area. When you find a breeder then ask how long they have been involved with their breed and do they do health checks, offer a written guarantee, etc. Also, do research on the breeds you are considering.  The rescues offer dogs a second chance but check out the history and if they offer health guarantees in writing for genetic health problems or temperament issues.  Good luck in your search EmoticonPeople don't support breeders anymore than they support the lazy backyard breeders constantly FILLING UP the rescues with mixed breeds.  If someone wants to buy a purebred from a breeder that's their right same as if they want a mixed breed from a rescue.By the way, the American Kennel Club, spends millions in genetic research striving to produce healthier dogs, they also donate to shelters and rescues and in times of disaster send food and supplies to the area.  All compliments of the AKC breeders.  AKC breeders are also routinely inspected by the AKC representatives in the area.  Also, anyone with more than THREE dogs in Houston City Limits must get a KENNEL LICENSE, this includes fosters and rescues. Strict requirements, one of which is no animals within 100 feet of another house.  Many rescues have been busted for deplorable living conditions for their rescues.   Many now Import sick dogs from Asia to resell (anytime you exchange money you are buying NOT adopting).  That's actually the source of the new dog flu in the US. 4951

@Jpgurl: completely agree with the above.  as a volunteer for a dog rescue I can't tell you how many pups/dogs are surrendered for allergy reasons.  I volunteer for Schnauzer Rescue of Texas and schnauzers are generally hypoallergenic.  They do however, bring pollen and other potential allergens in from outside.  As any dog will.  Just my RNs two cents worth :/

@Raquel36:  I follow SRT...have helped with supplies etc.  I can't tell you how many of those babies I want for my own!   Schnauzers are wonderful dogs.  Love that they don't shed! 4951
