The biggest ****** family in forest cove...they recently had their driveway done, it's been about a year probably. There are no sidewalks in forest cove, these people put cones up at the end of their driveway..all day every day to keep people from I guess driving over it by accident..they will also put caution tape along the edge of their yard when neighbors have garage sales to keep people from parking on their grass along the street. One of the inhabitants called me a nasty, not nice name when I expressed frustration by throwing my hands up at them when they were blocking the road..

These people need to be on a compound somewhere alone away from civilization. The driveway isnt even that pretty..its a big stone type, slate maybe(?) and it doesn't match their house but I guess they are proud of it.. 4951

Sorry, that was off topic...yeah, I'd rather move than to down as much as it costs to have a new driveway poured.. 4951

Also if anyone has any input on what kind of cost I need to prepare myself for,

@teatime: Mine needs replacing.  It is measured at 1100 sq st and the cost was ~$8,000.  Needless to say my driveway is not getting replaced any time soon.  Last I check the cost of concrete was ~$7.00 to ~$9.00 a yard.  That was a couple of months ago.  Not sure if it is cheaper in the winter or not.

My neighbor's tree has lifted up part of my driveway.   When I replace it I am cutting the roots of the tree that are on my property.   If their tree dies....not my problem...they just did foundation repair on their house that cost thousands of dollars....you would think they would have removed that tree since it is 5 feet from their house.   4951

My husband goes nuts over people making u-turns in our driveway. (Granted those idiots tend to pull their whole car into the driveway to do it - who needs that much space?!)So, I could see DH doing the orange cones thing! (You can have a glass of wine later and pity me.) 4951

@LadyM1234: We had our foundation done recently. The foundation company (which offers lifetime transferable warranty) said that removing some of the larger trees near our home could creating more damage in the future. The house is now corrected as it stands. Removing the tree causes the roots to rot which can cause collapse of the sediment which in turn causing the house to 'settle' or sink more creating a need for warranty work sooner. I know for us, it was such a pain to get the foundation work done that we chose not to remove the tree on that recommendation. It is a thought but maybe that is what they chose as well.  4951

Figure $6.00 to $8.00 per square foot for demo, haul off and pour back.  The biggest PIA is the City Permits.  You use to be able to go to the Kingwood Permit office and pull the permit.  Nope, not anymore.  You have to go downtown go through plan review etc.  My suggestion would be whom ever you pick be sure they are familiar with the process and make them do it.  To tie into the street the contractor must have a bond on file with the City.  There must be a thickened approach to the drive with stabilized dirt installed and rebar installed per the requirements.  There are specific details the city will inspect. For those that do the work every day, it's not a big deal.  For those that think they can navigate the permit process and have never done it before they will struggle.  If the permit process won't get them the inspection process will. One other note, we had to mark the property line and install an expansion joint at the property line then 5 feet back, just in case the city wants to install a sidewalk.  Yea, that will happen. The moral of the story, hire someone that works in the City of Houston and knows the permit and inspection process. 4951
