The head seat at the Kingwood Patrol Division of the Houston Police Department has recently been changed. It's now filled by Captain Jacob Atkins. He was gracious enough to take a few minutes out of his hectic schedule to visit with me so I could introduce him to y'all. "I am pleased with the warm and welcoming reception shown to me by the Kingwood community," said Captain Atkins. "I feel I have been accepted with open arms by the community members I’ve had the opportunity to meet with. I look forward to meeting others as I progress in my assignment as the Kingwood Captain."Captain Atkins is not a complete stranger to the police happenings of Kingwood either. According to the Law Enforcement bio he provided to us (read below), he was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division for a while which used to be the division that covered Kingwood before we were assigned our own division in 2004. Captain Jacob Atkins' Law Enforcement Bio:"I started as a police cadet in Class #178 in November of 2000, and graduated as an officer in May 2001. I began my career as an officer at the Northeast Patrol Division and was a patrol officer for 5 years, until I transferred to Assistant Chief Vicki King’s office, in the Criminal Investigations Command which included the Auto Theft, Burglary and Theft, Homicide, Juvenile and Robbery Divisions in the summer of 2006. I worked with her for over a year, and then went specifically to Burglary and Theft Division for an additional 9 months. In March 2008, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and trained at the Westside Division before moving to the Special Operations Division. I was drafted for a jail rotation in December of 2008, and remained at the Central Jail until March 2010. I left the jail to work in Civilian Employment, which is a part of our Employee Services Division. I worked in Civilian Employment approximately three months before I received a call from Assistant Chief Mark Eisenman, who served over the newly formed Homeland Security Command, which consisted of the Air Support, Airport, Criminal Intelligence, Special Operations, and Tactical Operations Divisions. He had been given my name by others in the department, and as a result, I met him for the first time on a Friday, and started working for him on that following Tuesday in the summer of 2010. I worked in the Homeland Security Command for two and a half years, and during my time there, I was involved in the planning process of the 2011 NCAA Final Four, and various other projects. I worked in the Homeland Security Command until October 2012, when I was promoted to Lieutenant. I was assigned to the Special Operations Division, and later put in charge of the Special Response Group. The Special Response Group is the specialized unit inside the department that deals with protests and large event security. I was able to assist the department with the 2013 NBA All Star Game, the 2013 NRA Convention and oversee approximately 200 protests in the Houston area. In the spring of 2014, I was asked by Assistant Chief Eisenman to be the Administrative Lieutenant for the Airport Division, due in part to my prior administrative and budgetary knowledge of Airport operations. I accepted the position at the Airport in the spring of 2014, and continued there until I promoted to Captain in June of 2017. I was then assigned to the Kingwood Patrol Division."My personal impression of Captain Atkins is that he is a genuinely respectful and likable person...Just a regular guy really. He's very approachable and easy to talk, but also very direct when handing out orders or explaining something. I think he's a great fit, and I hope HPD leaves him here for as long as he wants to be stationed in the Livable Forest.

lease join me in welcoming Captain Atkins. We appreciate the hard work done by all law enforcement, especially the ones who serve us right here in Kingwood.
