I'm trying to get my house ready to sell and not having very good luck finding a contractor. I've had 2 look at my house. Both have suggested new doorknobs. It's easy and inexpensive, I just wasn't aware doorknobs were so important.  4951

I'd think a realtor would give you better advice on what your home needs?!

Door knobs? Unless yours are hideous I would spend the money elsewhere.

@Diversity: You need a contractor for door knobs?  How many need changing?  You can by a contractor pack or door knobs all the same at various places for pretty reasonable.  I just changed all of them in my house for less than $50 bucks.  I think there were 13 of them.I would think a realtor rather than a contractor would be a better person to tell you what your house needs to sell quickly and for the best price.

I honestly don't think I've ever noticed doorknobs when house hunting, and since we just bought a new place, I've looked at several.

That's weird, even if your doorknobs are ugly, a new buyer would just look at that as super easy to fix. There are many more important things to consider when house hunting and doorknobs aren't one of them. 4951

doorknobs? If that's all your house needs, you're lucky. Yes builders grade knobs are cheap, just buy those and change them. 4951

I would not do it. Is that really going to sell the sizzle or break the deal? I don't think so. Are you changing them? If the contractor is doing it easy money. Takes about 5 minutes.  4951

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this was a little strange. I've changed them myself when they don't work just never thought about it as an update. Is there a preference in color? 4951

The master bath is getting the most work done. I'll buy new ones since the old will have to be removed to paint.  4951

Diversity, my last flip , I took out the brass doorknobs and replaced with brushed nickel. They were cheap. Where are you moving to? 4951

I would think the only reason to change doorknobs is if they are REALLY old or quirky, or broken.  Otherwise, as long as they are consistent through the house, and not really off-color when matched up to your house's interior color schemes, it seems like a waste of money to replace.  For example:

I'm guessing it's the lack of consistency that makes it noticeable. Some are the original 1980's brass.  4951

I guess it would depend on how outdated they are. I don't think I even looked at doorknobs when we were buying though. 4951

@sweetie: Good to know. Brushed nickel is my preference. My son and wife suggested I move closer to them in Forest West. I'm not 100% sure it's happening but getting my house ready.

If you're house is ove 20 years old people need to realize what they are getting. The difference in Texas between old and new house prices square footage wise is minimal.

Just a talking point to bring the house value down. 4951

@Ebola: It was built in 1981
