@Sassafras: I have a great recommendation, but I'm having trouble getting past that horribly insulting request. I even typed it out then erased it.

for basic sewing classes, check with the shops that sell sewing machines or a fabric store. many offer group lessons so they arent that expensive. 4951

I taught myself reading the book that came with my machine and lots and lots of practice starting with simple projects like pillows. As I became more skilled I bought a huge book put out by Readers Digest ( they have one for home repair and gardening) . I made some very tailor mad clothes for myself and my dd over the year- and very elaborate costumes for both kids.  It's not a hard skill to learn. And yes Google is your friendAnd I can't be anyone else but myself 4951

I think an easy way to learn is get some old clothes and other items, take them apart and  understand how it was put together. Then try to put it back together which to me is the only way to learn the trade. Videos and classes are ok but it takes lots of practice.   4951

@beastmode:
Yes!!!! I actually had to do this with pants and zippers. The crotch seam was hard to me- to be able to get the seams to match up perfectly AND lay down flat. Zippers are a pain in the ?????. Especially men's- with the hidden zipper
