Just a suggestion, but if you buy a good fan and they install it properly, it should last you for a really, really, really long time. Too often, people buy the cheapest ones, or the fan doesn't get "balanced" when it is installed and then they are replacing them 5 years later. If properly installed, the fan should not shake when it is on high. If it wobbles, it is not properly installed. 4951

I would love to replace mine in the great room....the problem I have run into is finding a fan that has the long extension poles. The original one in this house is easily 10-12 feet long. I don't know where you purchase the very long ones. H'depot doesn't carry. I've thought about taking this one down and just spray painting it antique bronze. It works fine! but the gold is fugly. @kt0721 did you purchase your new fan already? And if so...did it come with a super long extension rod...and where did you purchase this? 4951

yeah true...but it's hard to find them with the 72" extension...I did find them online on Amazon. Problem is that they are not all universal. @2013breakout 4951

@cgm10sne1: often you just have a piece of pipe cut and threaded to that length that you need. and thread the wires oiu need thru it. if you want it a certain color, before you thread the wire and install it, hang it from an overhead so it is horizontal, clean it, prime it and spray it the color you need. let it dry a few days before you handle it. . you might be able to use the extension you have and the wiring  and just have the fan installed on the existing extension  4951
