You have to do what you have to do. He probably does need the job and that's the very reason he should be on time. Maybe he will learn from this. 4951

No excuse for that especially after warnings.
He chose this outcome. It's hard but in the end, no one else is going to allow it either.
Time to grow up. 4951

I agree with what the others have said. If you are hired to do a job, you need to follow the rules. If you were to continue to let this person get away with this, it would reflect poorly on you, as a manager, business owner, etc., to your other employees. You gave them warnings and they continued their bad habits. That tells me they have no respect for you, or authority. 4951

You are a good person @jpm. This isn't on you.  If someone really needs a job, then they would be on time, and not back late from lunch ever, esp if they were late to show up in the first place.It speaks volumes about your character that you feel like this. But this is business, and you have done all you can.  You can't babysit another adult and make them make better choices.  He may need this to happen to change some things in his life.Good luck to you on Monday.

@Fallon:
Thanks

The two best excuses I've ever heard from an employee."There was a skunk next to my car and I couldn't get in.""My wife's new boy friend beat me up and pushed me down the stairs>'"My wife overdosed on some meds."  Did you call 911?  "No"  Did you call your Dr.?"Yes" he said to let her sleep it off."  Eventually I terminated him!" 4951
