@Fallon: Honestly, go buy a generator that can handle a fridge and other items that you really need to run without power for multiple days if you remotely plan on staying in the aftermath of a direct hit like Ike. It's nice to have a selection while there are plenty to choose from. Same rule applies to a chainsaw and window AC units. As for food to eat, I ate so much grilled meat during Ike I almost became a vegan afterwards. We cooked on the grill every night. Thank God I am a hunter and had plenty of game to survive on except I wiped out my entire supply and was glad deer season was about to start that year.
Also, and maybe the most important tip. Try and find out who in your hood has natural gas generators and go be-friend them now. Makes it a whole lot less awkward when you show up at their house to soak up their operational AC. 4951
