What is your favorite summer dessert to serve for big family dinners?

Nothing frozen - too difficult to transport at this time of year.

Pound cake with fresh berries and cream. (We buy the Sara Lee frozen, "filet" it and then put the berries and cream in the middle, with another layer on top!) 4951

@Annie:

Chilled, black diamond watermelon.  Nothing better. Edited to add, cut in wedges traditional style, not with all the rind cut off.  That's for sissies.    4951

@donnatella:

It just depends on how sweet/ripe the melon is.  If it's vine-ripened, chilled for 24 hours, it will probably be so sweet it needs just a little salt.  Kind of like vine-ripened tomatoes.  4951

If you feel like going the easy route,I always get those Marie Calender's frozen coconut cream pies. They are sooooo freaking good. Just know that you have to thaw it in the fridge for at lest a day or 2. 4951

@Annie, I will send you a recipe for a homemade pound cake, it is fabulous.  Simply fabulous.  And I usually take 2 pints of strawberries, and core them, them chop them up, and sprinkle some sugar on them.  How sweet the berries are will determine the amount of sugar you need.  Let this sit overnight if you can.  Bring a can or 2 of Redi Whip and you have the makings of individual strawberry short cakes.  Best of all, this cake is heavenly all on its own.  It is simple but you will not believe how great it is.

@Fallon: Send it to me too !!!!   That sounds awesome!

You guys were channeling my family's favorites perfectly. There are three birthdays in the next month to prepare for. I am usually the dessert maker.

For those of you who share recipes, they would be appreciated!

My aunt recently made what she calls Eclair cake. I will have to post her recipe when I have it printed next to me. Incredibly delicious and quick to make. 4951
