What do you think Kingwood would be like now if it hadn't been annexed by the City of Houston?

How about a City of Kingwood?

I still think it would be getting trashy. Deerbrook Mall use to be a great mall until Greenspoint was ruined. Criminals had to have somewhere to go. Now Humble has been ruined, just like Astro world was, splashtown, and anywhere that use to be our go to places back in the day.

Sad to say but I think Kingwood is declining rapidly. That's why we bought a farm and are heading out to the country several hours away from here. It's really ashame to feel this way after 27 years here. Oh well! 4951

I've lived here for 30 years and aside from it being a little more crowded, I dont think its really any different now than it used to be. One thing for sure, there has never ever been a shortage of trashy people in the Humble/Kingwood area. 4951

Yeah, doesn't seem too bad. Not much crime and pretty much everything I need within 3-4 miles (screw Trader Joes). Also a full service country club that is a reasonable cost.

Humble is a bit sketchy though. 4951

True.  Damn you Traitor Joes.  Humble has always had some sketch.  It was largely an oil boom town.  Show me one of those that isn't sketchy.  Also, parts of Atascocita were full gangster land 25 years ago.  4951

Considering that the annexation raised the cost of living here, there's a good chance that any perceived decline would have been greater without being annexed. If Kingwood residents are opposed to riff raff, it must be recognized that price deters riff raff.

Since moving here in 98, Kingwood is noticeably better in my opinion. Two of the most noteworthy improvements are Kings Harbor and the HEB development.

The old Ninfas location has even managed to maintain a restaurant for at least a couple of years. Tularosa has probably occupied that space for the 3rd longest period right behind Ninfa's and vacant.

Anyone care to identify an area of Kingwood where property values have declined or even remained steady? 4951

We've been here 29 years and I think traffic is the largest drawback...same road system for triple the people.  CRIME is about the same... Deerwood mall needs more security presence, KW needs more retail that people want not more cheap chicken places or nail salons. 4951

All malls are in decline...meh, I don't see how that has anything to do with being annexed. The annexing and dis-annexing and then re-annexing part though, I do think there should be more strict rules on it. People should get to vote the second time around. The way it is now they could keep doing it. Highly unlikely but the bar should be raised.   4951

I wasn't living here prior to but other towns unincorporated I have lived in there was a high degree of nepotism. Andy Griffin and Barney were cousins in the show but more like most of the extended family worked for the city in those towns. It does seem though it still goes on but transferred to the main hub. Not sure if that was going on in Kingwood.     4951

there is no industry in kingwood - you have to have something other than insperity in the tax base to support the area...kingwood is a bedroom community, nothing more, nothing less 4951

We never joined the country club, we aren't a golf and tennis family at all. We have been members of the Houston Yacht Club tho for 29 years, mostly for the sailing.

We will keep our membership there but probably won't be going there much. Just really keeping it so our grandkids can sail later. Easter egg hunting is great there and Santa visits on Christmas after arriving on a sailboat. 4951

And, I think putting Aldi and a dollar store here speaks volumes, I find both those stores super trashy. I just can't believe it's happening. 4951

What difference does it make?  All those stores will do is keep some Kingwood shoppers from going to Humble/Atascocita/Porter to the dollar stores or cheaper groceries there.  It won't bring in people who live in other areas, just to shop at our couple of cheap stores.  Think about it for a second.  4951
