Good evening all,

I unfortunately have lost more vision in the past two weeks and it's starting to get difficult for me to cook. I cannot tell if something is cooked all the way. You don't have to be a professional but does anybody know of anyone that wouldn't mind cooking for me and family like once or twice a week temporarily? Or maybe can teach me how to cook with my vision loss? Of course I will pay for your services. It would mean so much to me if someone can help. I've been feeling down crying not understanding why God gave me this horrified rare condition that I have. Any recommendations? 4951

@Momof2boyz:

I am so sorry. Is the loss of vision temporary? Is there someone from your church that could help? Would a meat thermometer help? I will be praying for you. 4951

@Momof2boyz: What about Visiting Angels caregivers? Maybe have one come out once or twice a week to help you cook meals for the week. Freeze and reheat should be easier than cooking daily.

Check out Vittles and Vines on Facebook. They make precooked family meals and you can reheat them. They are located in kingwood. Have never tried it, but someone recommended it on . The food looks pretty good. 4951

Do you have a crock pot or maybe consider an intstant pot.  You can make lots of things in both of them.  Might be a lot easier for you. 4951

It sounds like if you had maybe a dozen fool-proof recipes you'd be good to go. The Instant Pot might be a huge help to you. For example, you can pour a jar of Prego sauce into the pot, add dry spaghetti noodles, some water, and some frozen meatballs and cook everything at once. You can do the same for macaroni and cheese, and many other recipes. The only problem you might encounter is being able to read the various buttons on the front of the pot.However, the Instant Pots all come with an instruction booklet that includes a photo of the buttons. You could have that enlarged to make it easier to select the right settings. I usually just use the Manual setting and then add the number of minutes my recipe needs.I have terrible eyesight, too, so you have my sympathy.  4951

@Momof2boyz:

Have you contacted Lighthouse for the Blind?

They may be able to assist you with technology that can help with various aspects of your daily life.

So you can keep enjoying your computer, did you find the settings to make contrast greater (fewer colors) and fonts larger? 4951

Wow thank you all for the great advice and resources. I've been dealing with this for two years and trying to adjust to this new lifestyle. I just moved to Kingwood couple months ago so I can be closer to my doctors. I don't have any friends or family. Just my husband, who works extremely hard everyday. To answer some some questions because I do not know how to reply back and I have to use large fonts to type and read. I get so overwhelmed I just have to take a break from reading. I use to be able to read paragraph in 30 seconds now it takes me 5 mins. Anyways I haven't been been to the lighthouse but I have went to see a low vision specialist. I did learn about apps as certain technology stuff that can help me but I get so overwhelmed I just rather pay someone to do it. I guess I need to look in to getting a caregiver. I will defiantly call Ron. Thanks for the recepies and. The support. 4951
