A lady being pre-examined for cataract surgery, was found to have 27 (yes, that is correct twenty seven) contacts lodged in her eye. She was unaware of this.
17 were found in the initial inspection, and then 10 more in a second inspection.
The surgery was postponed because there contacts were in her eye an unknown length of time and there was a bacteria danger.

She had not seen an eye doctor "for ever".
She wore monthly disposable lenses for 35 years. 4951

How did she not know?! I once put in 2 and knew right away. They hurt if they aren't in correctly. There is no way I wouldn't know that there were 27 contacts floating around in my eye. 4951

No wonder she couldn't see!  They're disposable, not dissolvable!  4951

Gives me the willies big time. I totally have a phobia about putting anything in my eyes. Cant even do eyedrops. Ive been wearing glasses since I was about 10 years old and Ive never even tried contacts. 4951

@ZMAN: I can't do eye drops, but I have worn contacts for the past 16 years. It was hard at first, but I hated my glasses so I got used to it. 4951

Once they are in you can't really feel them. They are fit for your eye. But, 27 in one eye. Not sure I believe this story. 4951

How did she not see an eye dr. in forever?! You need an Rx for contact lenses.

Having a hard time believing this!! 4951

@FoFaDude, while working at an Optometric Office some years back, this young man, I think he was like 16 or 17, thought it was perfectly okay to wear and sleep in disposable contacts, and would just use a lil' Contact Lens Solution or Eye Drops when his eyes felt dry.......Anywho, the kid came to the office for a supposed "Red Eye" when the adhered Contact Lens was discovered.... The Doc that I was working for at that time, could not remove the Contact Lens, and the dude ended up having to have it surgically removed (by a Laser / Ophthalmologist)........It left a white ring around his cornea... 4951
