I was just in the garage and got hit by an urge to clean the outside of our freezers..we have 1 upright that is maybe 6 or 7 years old but our chest freezer that is 20+ years old..we only use it now to keep heads and stuff till they are taken to have whatever it is Michael has had done to them. It defrosted once on us when the breaker tripped and we didn't know..that was disgusting and a chore but it seems to be chugging along..but I am wondering for how much longer I can expect it to work?.i don't want to deal with the smell of defrosted death again..
@BooBear: To answer your question based on my experience I change garage freezers every four years as I get the SAMS brand. I do this to prevent what happened to you as it happened to me once when the freezer went out and it defrosted forcing me to lost almost couple hundred dollars worth of deer, hog, and fish meat. My dogs ate good though that time.
