Our first ever real vacation out of state and first since we both retired. I retired just a couple months ago.
My mom, teenage grandsons and hubby drove to the Smokey Mountains and stayed in a cabin. We were sooo excited that a black bear came visiting on the porch and looked at us through the front door. That was the least of it though.
We came home by Florida way to see Pensicola Beach, it was beautiful! I've only seen Galveston and Padre Island.
So to the point of this thread... we were just a few miles from Baton Rouge on the freeway in a torrential rain when were struck by lightening! My grandson driving behind us said the main bolt struck the ground and a part of it hit our truck. It was a flash/explosion then a flame came up between DH seat and console. He got a tiny burn and char on his finger as he reached to smother it. The biggest scare was when we lost all power and couldn't get off the freeway quickly due to cars going 60-70. DH kept saying he could see to drive. The third time I screamed at him to get off!! Thankfully my mom and grandsons didn't witness us and some innocent occupants of another car get killed. We barely made it off the road! WHEHHH!
Got a room and a rent car and headed home the next morning after getting everything out of the truck. Waiting for our insurance appraiser to check it during the week. No doubt it will be considered totaled due to all the electronics being fried!!
