[Removed by Admin] Vets are not to be used as cannon fodder that you throw away when we get back.  We have sacrificed for this country, something very few can say today.  Laying off anyone from the VA just can not be justified, no matter what you are fed news wise, I can tell you personally that the VA is understaffed and not meeting the needs of Veterans.  Thank your very soul that a Vet carried your load when the country was in need. 4951

@jschiner:

I'm a vet.

The VA has been a problem, and needed something done, for decades.
Sure not all all locations were as bad, but a lot had many issues, the were not being resolved.
About time federal employees learned about performance results.

Now let's buckle down and take care of our vets.
No more of these VA horror stories.

@jschiner:

Not only understaffed but staffed by people who don't seem to give two ****s about the vets they are supposed to be helping. What's needed is QUALITY people to take of our vets!!

Had a very scary incident happen with my son when a telemed VA psych dr prescribed him a drug that he shouldn't even be on!! Sent my son into a hell of a tailspin. If he would have actually taken the time to read my sons records this would've been avoided.

Son is asked every time he has an appt what meds he is on...VA.still has it wrong!!!

Ridiculous and uncalled for!!

If anyone has ever sat in the waiting room at the VA...you know the meaning of inadequate healthcare.

The VA has a lot of incompetent people working there. This was to clean out the bass and hire those that truly will benefit veterans. We all love the military. My dh nephew is in the Marines and his niece is in the Army. I think our VA deserves the very best medical and housing and benefits. We have the best country in the world and we owe it to our military. Thanks to all who serve or have served. 4951

@jschiner:

Sure it can just like any other business. Yes, VA's are understaffed however any veteran should not be subject to an incompetent, untrained, uneducated etc individual when seeking treatment. If the person doesn't fit the job, cannot do the job or is taking up space and not being useful then it is time to go...

Failed leadership should not be a reason to lay off good people. It is the guys in charge that set the tone.

I agree that The VA has it's share of incompetence that needs to be addressed but the man in charge is the one that is responsible. Fire his butt until they get the message.

So, because the leader jumped off a bridge, the ones behind weren't responsible for jumping behind? That makes no sense..

Get rid of the leadership AND get rid of the blind followers..if you are only going to do the right thing because someone else is, you aren't "good people" 4951

@FoFa:

Not really. He ran and won, ran again and got re-elected. That's all he's allowed by law and he scored both times. He never got fired. He probably would have beat Trump had they run against each other.

Trump is a loose cannon, at best. I hope the people around him can convince him to strive for a professional demeanor and less Twittering. 4951

Nothing will ever change at the VA until heads start rolling. Obama insulted our veterans by simply being a bystander as the corruption and downright cruelty  of the VA was exposed under his watch. Some in the VA administration and those who head up the hospitals should have criminal charges against them, and I hope they do. 4951

So you are saying the ones with felony convictions and sexual offences should have just stayed in the VA to possibly victimize our vets?  No thank you!  I am a nurse and if I ever had either one of those I would never work in healthcare again.  I can't believe that the VA allowed it for so long! 4951

Yea, I can see them hiring real qualified people, when they are posting disciplinary actions online for the world to see.  No professional is going within 100 miles of those VA jobs.  IMO these new procedures are only going to make it worse.  Firing people and posting their mistakes online is going to create a toxic environment and cause good people to leave as well.  Especially if their retirement is dismantled, as in the plan.      4951

The main problem is on the senior executive level (SES) employees who are the leaders. Travel abuse, bonus abuse any fudging information to keep those bonuses. Most of those are not Veterans. There are a lot of great people that is work for the VA who really care and who are Veterans but they are lower level GS employees. They have little to no ability to change anything beyond whistle blowing which actually did happen. Things though that need to happen:1. Dental and basic vision. VA should not be dealing with those issues. It should go to wherever the Veteran wants to go and send the bill to the VA. This is already starting to happen but the VA is fighting it. 2. Intense fraud division. There is much fraud in the VA that is not being investigated. Veterans making fraudulent claims or stolen valor people making claims and Emoticonroviders charging fraudulent fees. Start prosecuting these people in full force. 3. SES level employees. Make examples out of some of them. Destroy the culture they created and audit 30% of them every year. Much fraud going on with kickbacks from vendors, ethics violations. Very similar stuff going with them much like what was going on with Hillary and her staff at the State Dept and the Foundation. Nothing was done about it.    4. Severe penalties. Anyone caught doing this stuff goes to Leavenworth. Start hanging those pictures of them in cuffs in every SES level office with a paragraph of what they did and a "Just DON'T do it" Nike spoof so nobody forgets it.       4951

@beastmode: Why should any health care be provided to veterans other than that made necessary by their service?
