I agreed to
the relocation of the fireworks firing site based on meetings with the Kingwood
Country Club and the PyroTech Engineer. I knew that there was a risk but
believed it was acceptable. I was wrong and I apologize for the disaster that resulted
from that decision. We all believed that the higher elevation of the firing
site would overcome the additional distance from the Park. I don’t know why we
were so wrong and do not yet know the reason for the long delay in firing. I
will work on understanding those in the next few days and update you when I know.

There was no
malice in the decision either by ourselves or the Club. This was not a decision
by the Club to rob the Kingwood community of the traditional display. At all
times we tried to ensure that we could meet the needs of both parties. We didn’t
and again I am deeply sorry. I understand the anger and disappointment of the
community as I have worked over the past 10 years to help with producing the
best quality events that we could with the limited budget available.

We will be
reviewing the plans for next years event but I am not sure that we can come up
with a solution. The Club are unlikely to agree to a return to the original site
although we will of course talk to them about that. It may be that we each have
to stage our own scaled down shows with limited visibility. That will be sad
but may be inevitable.

I am very
sorry that this happened but nothing I can say or do will fix it for the thousands
who waited last night.

Thank you for an explanation and apology. If KCC pays for the fireworks next year and wants them in last nights location, Town Center cannot advertise that they are having fireworks. Like you suggested, it might have to be 2 separate events. 4951

I think most reasonable people would realize that this was not done out of malice. Unfortunately, you add this oppressive humidity and heat and some people are just hard to cool down.First worlds problems - certainly shows entitlement from people who are not paying anything for the show. That said, onward and upward - as you said - it was a risk. You tried - take the info and move forward with it from there. Good luck and don't beat yourself up! 4951

Agreed...  I have read some really nasty things.  Gosh you would think someone loast their first born child over not seeing fireworks. It is too bad that KW does not seem to be able to support the parade, the event at Town Center and the Fireworks.  One would think if they changed the launch area significantly they would have done some test firings to see if it was acceptable.  I guess the people who paid $75.00 to be at the CC had a good time.

Thank you for your apology and explanation. But I have to say I am ticked about last nights fireworks.  Not only were they late, but wrong location. I mean seriously, why relocate them to begin with? Realizing they were coming from the country club made me even more furious bc what? They wanted their own private show or something? My husband travels a lot for work. For the first time in 4 years he got to be home for the 4th of July and all of us being so excited that he'd be home to watch the fireworks with us finally and then we can just barely see them over the trees!! That's horse crap!! Was there any notification to the public that they would be fired off somewhere else? Bc there were a ton of people all at town center and in the field behind the old HEB just sittin and waiting. A complete let down. Maybe some test firing next time would be useful.  4951

Just another reason Kingwood will never be like the Woodlands! They do multiple shows so everyone has fun! Their shows are always no cost. This is why I will be moving back in that area as soon as possible! 4951

@tonyaust: Thank you for coming into the lion's den with an explanation. Emoticon There was plenty of disappointment last night which, I'm sure you would agree, is very understandable. I don't think there was any malice in the decision to move the display....it was a mistake and those happen all the time. Thanks to you and all of the private sponsors of the parade and the fireworks displays for putting on some great shows through the years. We can't change last night's display but we can learn from it. I sincerely hope that things can be worked out somehow for one (really high) community display next year!  4951

Having our own fireworks display is something that is important to the community. I would hate for this tradition to end. 4951

I've lived in Kingwood 38 years & have attended the fireworks display every year!  There has never been a year when they were not fantastic!  My question is:  why was the location changed???  If it's not broken, why fix it???We had awesome fireworks EVERY year, so why did it have to change??? 4951

There are enough engineers in Kingwood, no one could figure out it wasn't going to work??? LOL  70' pine trees with fireworks 300'...  Wait, I'm not an engineer.  Luckily I didn't go, but my kids and out of town guest did.  Just disappointing.  Sounds like it was a mess.  You're explanation makes sense.  Thanks for apologizing.              4951

thank you to tony austin for tendering an explanation of the situation. that is grownup behavior to step up and say i was the responsible party and the blame lands on my desk. kudos... for the people in a snitfit over being unable to see a free show, get over it! the fireworks are not the important part of the fourth of july and independence day...it is the celebration of independence of our country and the patriotism of our people. to throw a hissyfit reduces the celebrtion to a temper tantrum because quantities were limited at a halfoff sale...the important part seems to escape some... 4951
