I listened to an interview with Ted Cruz yesterday and I think he wants them to add ideas that will improve it.  Specifically, getting rid of the laundry list of required coverage and letting any insurance company that is selling the full coverage policies in a state to also sell policies that are tailored to catastrophic care.  4951

I have said it before and will continue saying it because I have more than anecdotal third party experience of both systems, single payer is the only true solution and healthcare is one place that should not be a for profit system, education is another. 4951

So we are going to have 13-23 million going for uncompensated care in emergency rooms which in turn will result in higher costs for the insured, Yipee!So we will access to high-risk pools with higher premiums and lifetime caps if our state opts out.  Yipee!So there will be less funding for nursing home care.  Yipee!So Lying Ted wants to fix it through high deductible health plans that don't cover pregnancy, births, medication for chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, or mental disorders.  Yowza!And the plan includes taxing "Cadillac" health plans subsidized by employers.  Who doesn't burst of joy at so much winning? 4951

@ET: yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you. In my head, repeal meant to just do away with it, not an Obamalite plan.

@deltadawn:
What legislation in your opinion would lower the cost of healthcare?

@CartmanUK35:

If by single payer, you mean all taxpayers subsidize the healthcare of everyone regardless of any differences in personal responsibility and lifestyle, how does that influence healthier choices that would actually lower the cost of healthcare?

But if by single payer, you mean each individual is individually responsible for their own healthcare, then yeah, I can agree with that. But I'd probably insist on taxpayer provided healthcare until the age of 17. 4951

@Spork: What in the AHCA promotes lowering healthcare costs?  It seems to lower insurance premiums for those under 40 while raising for those older than that age but does nothing to address care costs.  If anything, care costs are more likely to increase because of the number of uninsured seeking uncompensated care.  The hospitals will have to recover the cost of that shortfall to those that do pay or go broke.  In essence, we are returning to the pre-ACA days. 4951

Look at all the liberals cry babying about personal responsibility. You have to be a special someone to expect a perfect stranger to cover your problems. You owe me mentality.  4951
