If you ignore updates for a long enough period of time, it will eventually update automatically. 4951

I would check the following:
Settings--> iTunes & App Store --> Updates

I believe that you can control the automatic update by toggling the Updates option to off.

You may start to get nag messages regarding updating your software as the automated feature will now be off.

Hope this helps 4951

I refuse to ever do the updates and @donnatella is right, they just do it automatically after a time.It always seems to me that they ask me to update when I am not home or am trying to use the phone.

@Fallon:

Why would you refuse the updates? They are either updates to protect your security or add more useful new features. And they are FREE, LOL. I look forward to them, and usually get them the day the come out.  4951

I just bought a new one so I noticed this. It asked me if I would allow automatic apple device updates. You probably hit yes when you first got it. 4951

I have an easy solution! Just keep your old iphone 3 or 4 running, as they don't make updates for those! Switch to modern apple technology, and you have to deal with them. 4951

I still dont get why auto updating would be a bad thing. Seems pretty hassle free to me. 4951

I am still refusing to update mine. I haven't had time to back it up yet and I always am afraid I will loose everything in the update. Mine hasn't automatically updated though. i guess I should see if I have that option turned off. 4951

@ZMAN: True, that there isn't anything lost as a result of the update.  It's only an issue if you are trying to use your phone to do something else and then getting prompted to do the update, click a few things, when you are actively trying to do something else, perhaps something important like browsing KDC...

If your using IOS, you can totally set it to do it overnight. In settings>General>under update just select update and download it, then choose install later and choose Install Tonight or Remind Me Later. If you tap Install Tonight, just plug your iOS device into power before you go to sleep. Your device will update automatically overnight. 4951
