i know this sounds crazy but does anyone else have a habit of chewing your tongue? i also have really low iron and chomp on ice all day long and was wondering if the tongue chewing might be a side effect of the anemia also. I know it sounds crazy, just trying to figure this out. 4951

Oh, your OWN tongue.  That's totally different.Seriously, don't chew on ice.  I used to do that as well, and ended up with a mess of cracked teeth.  You can buy iron pills over-the-counter for your anemia. 4951

Pica causes you to eat things your body needs..chewing your tongue seems more a compulsive thing to do. 4951

It sounds like an OCD issue, more behavioral than medical. Anti-anxiety meds are known to help.  4951

@kaykaysanchez0603: Have you tried a mouth guard? Been checked by a dentist?

@CantStandTex

Lol yes I know it is pretty weird. I've googled it and researched it and at least I'm not the only weird one out there. There are multiple people with this issue. I notice myself doing it most of I'm driving, under stress, or concentrating on my work. I don't know all I know is my tongue hates me lol 4951

@kaykaysanchez0603: Talk with your doctor. Xanax could be a great option to treat that anxiety and stress reaction.

Agree with other comments, certain OCD behaviors cause repetitive movement such as rubbing fingers together frequently, picking at something on the body over and over again, pulling hair, etc. it usually surfaces when someone feels out of control-stress. Exercise to channel extra energy! You could also might have a sensory issue which is oral related where you may need to chew on a special necklace to calm nerves and focus. Look up sensory chew or bite necklaces on Google. And if it continues get a routine physical and talk with your doctor to see if it could be mental or like you said another condition as well like lack of certain nutrition or jaw related issue. 4951

Not harsh- you didn't say you were being treated for anemia in your OP. You have Pica - you need to tell your doctor- that is all and my point. I'm amazed at how many people put more faith in Dr Google than their doctor. Anemia is nothing to fool around with.
