I don't mean to put my personal business publicly but at this point i am desperately worry. My hubby has a swollen leg with a big lesion/wound above his ankle that it is draining & swollen he went to his Dr on Tuesday and he sent him home with two different antibiotics but I know they didn't even clean the wound. The Dr suppose to have order a Nurse and he said he would take care of it--- for home visit to tend to the wound but as of yet--today haven't heard from anyone--well it seems to me is now draining badly it looks like a first degree burn. And I am unable to wash it and clean it. The leg is bruised in one side but that i believe is because he fell and landed and the side of the bad leg. I am upset b/c he didn't tell his Dr that the night before his appt on Tuesday about 3:30 am he fell getting up going to the bathroom. He is a big man 6'4 and heavy (football tackle but old now). I am so upset because this freaking husband of mine wouldn't let me call for an ambulance and i am feeling so helpless. The only thing i think i can do now is try to get a Registered Nurse on my own who may be authorize to make a house call...Dr's office closed at noon on Friday and I feel helpless. Suggestions anyone? I am freaking out...😭 though he is not (sniff)  4951

Besides the wound itself, I would worry about a blood clot. You need to take him to the ER for sure. 4951

Not a nurse but an EMT and I think I you might consider at least a visit to an Urgent Care... less costly than an ER. I have head good things about the Med Spring by Spec's. if it is read, hot and inflamed it is nothing to mess around with as waiting can cause infection into he blood stream and worse problems. If he can get to the care it would not need an ambulance but it certainly needs attention post haste...

He needs to go to the ER right now. He could get MARSA (flesh eating bacteria) or cellulitis. Either is dangerous. Do you need help to get him to hospital? If you need help let me know. I'm not a nurse, but so many things can go wrong. He has only 2 legs and he needs to keep both of them. 4951

While you are waiting you may want to consider putting some ice on it,  20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.  And prop it on on a footstool.  NO heat and that will exacerbate the infection. 4951

he wouldn't go to ER the last time about 2 years ago he was dropped off by my brother (he is no longer driving) for another issue he sat there for 7hrs then they put him on a room and took 2 more hours to be seen by any one--he cannot lay down flat because he cannot breath----an is on Oxygen therapy too--added he is claustrophobic and after nothing was done at the ER still waiting in an 8 x 8 room with garbage cans all around he lost it--called me to have him picked up...I am not driving and i am restricted physically as well..now just imagine what i can do. He is not senile even being 73 y/o and he continuously try to calm ME down.... is th 😭e pitts 4951

PLEASE insist that he go to ER, at least to the urgent care! There is a flesh eating bacteria out here that can take a person durn in a day or two!

BTW....I am a nurse! There are several of us on this board and I'm sure each one will tell you the same. The EMT has said what I said!

This is a serious condition ... He needs to be seen ASAP! 4951

@coco1248: Kingwood Urgent Care (next to Town Center) might be a good option. Not an ER visit but they can at least get it clean and properly assessed. There is little to no wait at all.

We have gone several times and the longest wait was maybe 10 minutes.

They are open today until 8:00 pm and shouldn't cost any more of a co-pay than seeing your PCP or a specialist, since they are not an ER. 4951

@sweetie:

From the sounds of it, he already has cellulitis and he has a major infection going on! He needs to be seen and treated by a doctor NOW!

Men are such stubborn babies sometimes. Ask him if he wants to lose that leg, if so then he needs to do nothing. Oh I hope you can convince him. 4951
