@Ray:

I remember waiting until after 8 to call home on Sunday evenings because it was a lot cheaper. Also remember not being able to get through on Mother's Day because everybody had the same brilliant idea. 4951

775-7294As a teenager, I made a long-distance call and my father chewed my butt out.They changed the area code years ago.  My nephew and his family now live in my parents house and I don't know if they even use a landline. 4951

our first number was 859.  No dialing. Operator came on and asked "What number please?"  And was a party line. 4951

Dang @Ray, you had to have a number before the 367- number.  That's a newcomer's number.  364-, 365-, and 369- prefixes have been there a while. 4951

Prior to the 775 prefix number, we had a party line and you had to ask the operator to connect you to something like BA 123 (I don't remember that number).  Prior to that, we beat on dead hollow trees with clubs or used smoke signals. 4951

Mine started out as 358-6589. At some point the 358 changed to 360-6589. 4951

My parents actually still have the same number. My mom can't seem to get rid of the landline even though she doesn't use it much. 4951

@gigem09: Mine too. Same number as when I was a kid. They just don't trust going all cell phone and are convinced they need the landline backup.

I still use the landline my parents had in the 90s at Randall's for their membership. No one has used that # in 21 years! 4951
