The past year I have heard comments even from close friends that they will need to ask or thank the Universe.
Now i hear it numerous times on movies shows etc.
I have even heard it on local news.
Is this the new word to use instead of God?
If so.....why is everyone doing it...even Christians. Confused 4951

@Ann2800:

Honestly I haven't noticed it but yes that's a bit odd.

Way back when I dated a girl whos Mom was in a cult. I know....(drumroll)...and I'm so not lying. She was always universe this...universe that.

Your post reminded me of that...and I thank God every single day for helping me to dodge that bullet.

That said....universe talk makes me want to run far, far away 😀

Never heard of it but I understand the appeal. Among all people with strong opinions about how we got here, thanking the universe seems less likely to offend without knowing the beliefs of the other person. It also seems to include everyone's beliefs. 4951

My SIL who is very much not a Christian is always using "light and life", as in, "I wish you light and life." Some of her friends who are also not Christian, even anti-Christian, use that term as well as the universe thing. It seems to be a work-around to acknowledging God. 4951

Found this the other day. Looks like brain neurons:Measuring subtle distortions

Indeed, about 95 percent of the Universe is dark. The cosmos consists of
23 percent of dark matter and 72 percent of dark energy. "The nature of
dark
energy remains one of the main unsolved puzzles in modern science," says
Romain Teyssier, UZH professor for computational astrophysics.https://phys.org/news/2017-06-largest-virtual-universe-simulated.html#jCpBrain neurons: 4951

You might notice PC placaters and those with no religious affiliation using that term, but I doubt anyone of Christian faith would say that. 4951

@Spork:

Snowflakes!

Who gives a ship if they offend others? That's right...snowflakes. Damn those everyone gets a trophy generation.

I will say what I want, when I want. If it offends anyone, tough ship! They'll get over it.

Nah. Just a guy who doesn't care about offending others, that's all. I know they'll get over it eventually...as will I.

Do you concern yourself with everyone's feelings?

@jax:

No, not always, but I think Im a happier person when I try to. I do try hard to be a considerate of others around me and for the most part behave like a gentleman in public. 4951

That's just common courtesy. Every human should strive for that, but also know pleasing everyone is impossible.

I open doors for people, but I have been yelled at by some women for doing so. I still do it to this day and don't care if it offends anyone. That's courtesy.

@jax: I wouldn't yell at you. I can get my own door, but it's nice when someone ahead holds it, just to be nice. I also love it when someone refills my drink. Again, I can, but it's nice to get the Princess treatment.

I do realize people can open their own doors. They can also cool their own meals, but choose to let others do that for them too.

Peace out. Peace in the hood.

I'm calling BS on the yelled at for opening a door statement. I would agree that some people may not verbally acknowledge the effort but at a minimum I always get a smile or nod....women and men. 4951

@ET:

Oh, it's happened twice. Once in downtown Houston, the other in small town Chapell Hill. Ok, yell is not the word. How about spoken awfully loud to? The people in the Chapell Hill kolache place all turned and saw what was happening. I just laughed.

The Houston one I didn't think anything of it at the time. Just thought she was a crazy feminist. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. Didn't really make a difference. I still open doors.
