Since moving to Texas almost 4 years ago, our family has totally embraced everything Texas. But, I just don't get Whataburger. I have tried different locations and their basic hamburger/cheeseburger is sub-standard. I can't stand the chopped lettuce and mustard? What's that all about? A hamburger needs mayo and ketchup, primarily.Now, they have a burger with bacon and BBQ sauce, which can be actually amazing, but the overall Whataburger obsession is beyond me. I was liking their patty melt for a while and then noticed that it actually didn't have a whole lot of flavor.Other fast food places have better fries. Is it sort of group-think that Whataburger is the best and if you don't agree you might be shunned? Â I just don't get it.BTW, Three B's burgers are freaking amazing, although I overheard an interesting comment whilst standing in line at Torchy's, "Three B's will have to lower their prices if they're going to compete."Â
@HollyHobby:
Let me explain it to you. At one time, say 20-30 years ago, Whataburger was something of a novelty to people in Houston, as they were more concentrated in smaller towns. So that is reason #1 for the obsession. #2 is that at that time, they were one of the only fast food places that cooked their stuff fresh and it didn't sit in a warmer. The third is their advertising. I still prefer them to BK, McD, JITB and Wendys. In my opinion, their burgers taste better than the big national chains, but of course it's a matter of personal taste. I like mustard and grilled onions on a burger. 20 years ago, there was not another big chain that would give you jalepenos, or grilled jalepenos on a burger. 4951
