On Monday the state takes over regulating companies such as Uber and Lyft.

The biggest difference is the background checks on drivers is not as comprehensive as it was, due to fingerprints are no longer used in the background check.

The main difference between Uber and Lyft for the rider, is that Lyft allows you to tip your driver within the app and Uber does not.

Contrary to what you may have been told in the past, a tip for the driver is not included in your Uber fare.

While tipping is not a requirement, like any service industry, if the driver does a good job, he or she would appreciate it.

What's the difference between the two in what amount the driver is paid without the tip? 4951

Cash tips paid in person are preferred by the recipient because there's no record. Paying taxes on that amount is on the honor system. If it goes on the CC, it becomes part of official earnings and is taxable, handled by the business and often times, is split with others. CC tips are convenient for the customer but cash is more beneficial to the recipient. 4951

You'd be surprised at how few riders actually tip. It's a rare thing because nobody ever carries cash anymore 4951

I drove a cab for awhile when I was out of work.I always tried to get out and open the door for my passengers--when they got in and out. There always seem to be luggage to load and  unload too.I usually received a substantial tip...which I appreciated tooIt was when this person put a dirty, wet and muddy dog the back seat so I could take it back it  cross town to his son's that did it!  A tip from the son?  Hell, no.The word soon got out among other drivers, if you got a call from that address, tell the dispatcher you had a fare in our cab. 4951

Hearing more about the issue, I'm not sure I understand how removing state control and the ability to fingerprint the drivers will increase their business, allow them more into Houston and increase confidence in the drivers.  I know most are great local people, but my fear is that one "not so great" driver.   Plus, I couldn't call @BooBear in the middle of the night and wake her **** up if I used Uber. 4951
