The Kingwood Mama **'s will be open starting Thursday, May 11. I was invited out to their friends/family/media service earlier this week, and thought I'd drop some info and photos here for y'all. Emoticon I took the oldest daughter...She's a foodie like me, and she also loves asian cuisine. The place is obviously immaculate since it's new, but I really liked the layout of it. And the only negative thing that really stood out was how small it was inside. Although, they have a good-sized patio area, and I'm sure a lot of their business will be delivery. On to the food...I ordered chicken lo mein and an egg roll, and she had beef lemon sriracha stir fry with crab rangoon. Both were tasty, and the portions seemed right. She asked if I needed to take pictures of a dessert as well...I was picking up on her not-so-subtle hints, and said yes so she could order one. I'm soft like that.  Emoticon  She ordered the chocolate cake and said it was scrumtrulescant!  Emoticon And even though I didn't order any, they do offer beer and wine. Emoticon All in all, it was a pleasant experience. I think they'll do alright in that location along with everything else that's coming.Mama **'s Asian House - Kingwood will be located at 4535 Kingwood Dr, Ste 100 (next to Torchy's Tacos).Their hours will be:Sun - Thur 11-9, Fri - Sat 11-10For more info, call (832) 839-4356 or visit http://www.mamafus.comBy the way...We had more than enough, so we took some home.  Emoticon 4951

Is the food made fresh when you order or is it along the lines of the Chinese fast food restaurants? 4951

@Annie:

They were making it to order. And as far as the "fast Chinese food" feel goes, I'd place this one somewhere between Panda Express and a regular sit-down place...Except for the $$. It's a tad bit on the higher side. 4951

Good looks good. I like a sit down restaurant or cafe. I'll try it. Thanks for the review. 4951

My daughter brought home one a steak and rice dish. Yes it was great but when she looked online at the nutrition label it had 2,840 grams of sodium. That  is 118% of recommend daily supply. I would be very cautions if you have hypertension. 4951

@Goodnightmoon: Most Asian food is high in sodium, as is most takeout food in general. It really is so well-known, it's almost a given.

We ate there today- not too busy- service was fast. Food was good-not a huge fan of Aisian food- but I'd eat here again.
I had the lunch special- cashew stir fry with crab ragoon- hubs had cashew stir fry with pork and pot stickers. We shared the basil rolls. Lots of workers so service was fast. 4951

I am educating my self on sodium content of not only Asian food  but other restaurant foods. I am totally blown away about how much sodium is in restaurant food. I have been recently been diagnosed with hypertension so I need to really watch my sodium intake! 4951

Good for you. Cutting sodium isn't as easy as one would think. Pay special attention to breads and pasta as well (a lot of hidden sodium in there).  It certainly is a battle. I wish you all the best in your efforts. 4951

@Goodnightmoon: You'll have to pick whole, unprocessed foods when possible. Also be very careful with salad bars- lots of hidden sodium ( and sugar) in dressing, olives and pickles ,bacon,ham ect. Also some sit down places will salt the lettuce mix. Soups are another food that's heavily salted.

Call me when we get a real restaurant. You'll be able to find me at Yama's dreaming about a Kingwood where Puerta's Tacos didn't close. 4951

@Goodnightmoon:

Check canned and prepackaged food from the grocery store. The sodium amounts are ridiculous. The companies need to add some potassium and magnesium salts and cut the sodium in half. Most of America is terribly deficient in both magnesium and potassium. 4951

Sounds and looks like it's on par with a Pei Wei.
Salt is a taste enhancer for bland foods and it's cheap compared to other spices. The only real way to avoid any salt is to cook at home with only non-processed foods, aka anything without a nutritional label on the side. 4951
