Of course, it depends on their ages, but when ours were 2 and 5 we got little puzzles and coloring books that were new for the trip.  Nothing expensive, but the newness lasted a good while.  Also, when they were small, we wouldn't go more than a couple hours without a stop somewhere, even if it was for five minutes to stretch the legs.  4951

You know I don't have kids but do they need to be entertained 24/7?Never mind, I know the answer.  I see kids watching movies on phones and/or wearing headphones everywhere.Maybe some storytelling time?  Create a story as you go and everyone contributes.Work in some quiet time too Emoticon 4951

Seriously though, Ipads. My daughter is old enough to use one on her own to pick her shows and games she want to play, and then we put one on the headrest for my boy so he can watch cartoons since hes still to little to work it. But we really only do this for anything longer than hour or 2 drive. 4951

We have a DVD system but only let the boys use it for long trips (like ZMAN - over 2 hours).Otherwise, drawing pads, books, those Mind Teaser game books, etc. 4951

Depends on the ages. My parents had a couple of sets of trivia flash cards. They kept us entertained and were educational. We were pretty young. 4951

Road trip bingo is fun...for a while.  It gets their faces out of the screen and looking at the countyside they are passing.  Again, for a while.  Google Family road trip ideas.  You'll find some good info. 4951

Road sodas.J/K, I don't condone that.  But seriously it depends on age.  When we were little we did Winnie the Pooh tapes, which come to think if it, might have been why dad always did have a road soda in his hand.  As we got a little older we read books, used our imagination, and played games like I spy or if we were in the US we looked for different state plates.  I used to listen to my Walkman a lot when I got to be 11 or 12.  With I pads the kids have games, movies, kids shows, books, comics, or magazines available.   4951

If it was over 4 hours, we flew.  I didn't have it in me to deal with road trips.  My oldest was always OK.  He entertained himself. My youngest, after a few hours, would start to get sick, then projectile vomit.  He is the reason we always fly.  He never gets sick on a plane.  I miss my kids being little.  Except for the traveling part.  For that, I am glad they are older now.  Makes life SO much easierEmoticon

I had one that projectile vomited on planes until he was about 7, so I way preferred to drive everywhere.  Can't drive to Africa from here, however... 4951

We listened to audio books.  Some of our favorites were Little House on the Praire, Harry Potter, Theodore Boone, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Hank the Cowdog.  The narrators on those books are incredible and kept the whole family entertained, even the adults.  You can get a lot of audio books from the library as well. 4951
