Hi everyone!  My first posting here and I need some help.  Our longtime lawn service person is retiring from the business and I need some recommendations for a replacement.  Basically I just need someone to mow & edge and at least one person on the crew needs to speak English.  Thanks. 4951

@mamadog53:  Welcome to KDC!  It's difficult right now to find a lawn service.  We wanted to hire a lawn service to pull weeds, trim hedges, replace plants that had frozen during the freeze, and spread new mulch.  We called several lawn services but several of them said they just didn't have the manpower.  Many of their immigrant workers (legal or illegal) are afraid to show up for work for fear of being deported.  I read that lawn service, landscaping, and hotels have been the hardest hit with the lack of workers.

I do have a regular lawn service to mow and edge, but they have a hard time staying on schedule.  They've added so many customers and lost some of their crew that they are no longer accepting new  customers.  Good luck!  I'm sure someone on here might be able to name a service. 4951

I have a yard crew that I am satisfied with, but they are a very basic service. If you are super picky or want to come outside and ask them to do extra things on the spot, they are not your crew.  EmoticonThey cut the grass, edge the trim, and blow the clippings off the cement. They occasionally trim the hedges without me asking. All this for 25 bucks a service.  However, I have a very small flat yard. I'm in Kings Mill on one of the smaller lots.The crew will do more landscaping if you arrange for that, with a separate price, but they are very reasonable.  The owner speaks English and is also eye candy, I must say.  He looks like he should be on Dancing with the Stars. They have certain areas that they work in each day of the week and I can't guarantee they will be able to take on new customers at all addresses because of this limitation. PM me for further info. 4951

I just had to let mine go for a bit because we lost our "extras" income.  He's a good young guy that has a helper and has been here like clockwork.  Speaks and texts fluent English and even has a paypal account to make paying easy.  Like @turkeytrax crew, they do the basics of mowing and blowing but everything is negotiable because they are in it to work.I'll send his info over via PM 4951

@turkeytrax and @shodan66:   Normally, I just pay my lawn service extra to do the spring cleanup, but they had to turn down the extra work because they lost some crew.  I ended up using Prime Lawn for my spring cleanup.  I had used them several years ago to install sprinklers and to totally change the landscaping.  They did a great job, but they are not cheap.  Prime Lawn quoted me a price for the spring cleanup, but told me it would be a couple of weeks before they could get to me. The price was higher than I am used to paying, but they seemed to be the only one that took the job.  The job was expected to take about 4 hours.  They called and said another job cancelled on them and could they come do our's that day?  They did a good job, but I noticed their crew was moving slower than usual.  After the work was done, I received a bill that was $140 higher than their quote!  When I asked them why, they said the job took longer than anticipated.  I told them that just because they had an all-day job cancelled and came to do our 1/2 day job, I was not paying for the additional time.  After going back and forth, they finally accepted payment of the original quote.  I doubt that I will be using Prime Lawn in the future. 4951

@BooBear:

That sounds reasonable to me. Make sure it has a concierge to run your errands. 4951

They aren't cheap, but they're great!! Fast, efficient and friendly. The owner is a local Kingwoodian and a Marine. Plus for the ladies... he's some very nice eye candy. 😉 4951

People pay for gym memberships, and people pay for lawn service.  Meanwhile, mowing the lawn is pretty good exercise. 4951

I lived in Dallas for 28 years and thought nothing of mowing the yard in the middle of the day in the heat of the summer.  When we moved to Kingwood I mowed for about a month before deciding the hire someone.  The heat and humidity was just too much for me.   4951
