>> So the kid tells you she isn't religious, the mother tells you the kid isn't religious..yet you still talk to the kid about religion..this is how atheists are made.
@BooBear:
Not really. That's just an excuse. Atheists don't become atheists because of Christians, even though many will express that sentiment.
Atheists become atheists for a reason only known to them. Religion isn't a reason. It's a copout. But, it's their copout, so whatever.
@jax:
I would say that this is how militant atheists are made.  I think militant atheists have an internal struggle going on or have been slighted by religion or the religious in some way.  There's a conflict in them that keeps them thinking about and a being angered/bothered by religion.  They are not representative of the vast majority of non-believers any more than Westboro represents Christianity. Humans are born atheists and taught the religion of their ancestors.  If that were not the case, then everyone would have the same innate beliefs.  I'm a non-believer as are DW and our children.  It didn't take religion pushing us away nor do we use it as a reason.  I think it may come as a surprise to believers, but most atheists don't hate religion and, unless it comes up in someone else's conversation, don't even think about it.  Why would I concern myself with something I don't believe in?  Why would I need an excuse or reason to not believe in something?  Honestly, to me it's like expecting a reason for not believing in Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.  I would submit to you that you know many more non-believers than you realize.  I know a bunch of folks right here in Kingwood and we don't even have a club or anything.  The vast majority are just going about their daily business living under the credo of "don't be a ****" and it's working out just fine. 4951
