It means we will not be totally screwed when all the Obamacare taxes hit us in the paycheck next year.

@Fallon:

I'm sure they will find a way to keep those. 4951

This is the first step. At least now they can start revising it. Never going to be perfect but have to try something. 4951

Heard someone today that employers started offering healthcare to keep good talent after Democrats got wages set. It was the only way too keep the best of the best. That has now been compromised. Now everyone gets it even if you sit around eating moon pies and watching TV all day. You are special no matter what. No contribution to society no problem. You are the greatest person ever.   4951

I just have this bad feeling the GOP didn't put enough thought into it, basically something else like Obamacare, we have to pass it to see what's in it.
Hopefully President Trump's allowing providers to cross state lines he touted during the campaign, is in it.
And it better not have any clauses on pre-existing conditions.

There is no way to fix it. People get free healthcare for sucking in air. That's all they have to do. Somebody has to pay for it now. 4951

@FoFa: As a strong supporter of Trumps business savy-but also a ins. agent-what is this (his allowing providers to cross state lines) going to do for us??

If you have pre-existing conditions you are screwed. They can't deny you but you can be charged more. Also, if you are older ie 50 or older you can be charged 5+ times more than younger people.  By then you will all have pre-existing conditions too.  4951

@fudgiesmom2: I'm not sure about the Pre-x now as I've been searching for the mandate with the new plan and can't find in anything certain. You're 50 and over analogy is something you heard on CNN-here's the real deal-with Obamacare-he maxed out the difference in rating between 21 yr olds and older folks-making younger folks pay more than their claims accounted for (like ins co's have been rating for years, like auto and homeowners ins co do, life ins co's do ect ect) fro. Which screwed up the rating for ins co's and also made it to where they lost a lot of the younger folks because the rates were off. This was one of the numerous reasons we knew Obamacare was destined to fail way way way before implementation. Now-the OC care mandate for screwed up rating has been taken away and ins carriers can rate the correct way-taken loss rations into their factoring vs Obama's stupid mandate. That's a good thing!

@FoFa: That's incorrect of him-thought you might have a better answer since you were hoping it was in his new plan. Ins Co's can already sell insurance across state lines-they just develop plans based on that states mandates and terms (Dr's charges/Hosp. ect) instead of allowing NY residents to buy their OK plans-which will be cheaper of course cause it's a lot cheaper to obtain care in OK-but it's stupid. Doesn't make sense for the carrier and doesn't make sense for the insured (does Network Dr's ring a bell in this genius plan of Trumps). It will do just the opposite-Co's will be bailing knowing this could happen. Ga allowed it for the last 5 years and NO CARRIER participated, not one. It's just stupid-I'm amazed he's still considering this as a benefit as it makes no sense.

We will see.  Today's vote didn't nearly kill it tho.  Still has to pass Senate, which it wont in current form most likely.  Even if the Senate does revise and pass, then new form goes back to House.  Way too early to call it dead.  And I know you love your ObamaCare anyway, dontcha? 4951

President Trump mandated coverage of pre-existing conditions so the AHCA does require their coverage but as you have noted, states can opt out provided they develop high-risk pools that qualify for a waiver from the federal government.  The rub will be in the rates, deductibles and caps, yearly and lifetime.  Commissions will be high so retail insurance sales will be lucrative for those in that business.  For now, here is what I would like answered.   What coverages would the State of Texas not require should it request a waiver to drop some and how does the AHCA help to decrease medical care costs, the real driver of increasing premiums? 4951

on that states mandates

@cador:

Yes, that was what he was going to change, to make them the same so all companies could participate on the same footing.
