Do you keep your cellphone within reach 24/7? If so, is it for work or your personal prefernce?I look at phones, including cell phones, as a convenience and not as a demand to be answered. When I am home, my cell phone stays on an end table next to my recliner. If I go outside or to another room, it stays on the end table (unless my wife is out by herself running errands or gone to a play or concert). I keep my cell phone close in those situations. The very thought of the scenario when someone is in the shower when their phone rings and they just about kill themselves jumping out to answer it, is absurd to me. If the phone rings and I am busy with something, I may not answer it. If someone leaves me a voicemail, I will call back as soon as I can. I also periodically check my phone and text logs to see if I missed someone. It's not unusual for me to forget my phone when I leave the house. My approach to cell phones irritates an old friend because I don't always answer when he calls. He lives and breathes by his cell phone. If he's driving, he will call and talk to several people during his entire drive (he does have hands free calling in his vehicle). He rarely ever turns his cell phone off, charging it in his vehicle or at his bedside. He says he does this in case his kids need him. His kids are in their 40s.
@Retired_Engineer: I am with you only with me when my hubby is out, Otherwise, it stays at the table. But I have three sisters that I call fanatics, drive and talk all the time and usually get upset at me because they expect me to drop what I am doing to answer their calls and gripe at me accusatory "you never answer the phone, how about if I am in trouble?---I said so if is urgent call 911 first then call me. If I don't answer is because I am busy so next time leave a message, and I will call you back. They get more upset
deal with it I refuse to be a slave to the fricking phone!
