Any thoughts? Since old and new water heater will not fit through attic opening this may be an option. Does not cost that much more... 4951

@Andreweggplant:

Depends on your usage habits for the best payback.

I couldn't justify the difference doing the math for my household but for some it makes sense.

Don't focus only on the attic door issue. Most times resizing that opening is very easy if it's necessary. 4951

@Andreweggplant: My sis is very happy with her water less heater and is energy saving/efficient and no chance of flood.. Her old one blew up in the attic back in Nov and cost her a fortune to redo all the flooring up and downstairs due to the flooding. She got rid of it and replaced it with the water less.

I think code nowadays for an attic opening is 54 inches by 25 inches

Make sure you are getting enough water capacity for your needs. Last time I looked at these they were pretty pricey in comparison to the tanks and you supposedly made some of it back in efficiency savings.  There was also some discussion about ongoing maintenance required.They may have gotten better now? 4951

You need to make sure that your gas line it the correct size. Most of the ones in Kingwood are too small so you would have to call a plumber to run a larger line from the meter into your attic, that's where it gets really expensive.

I have a friend that has one and had to relocate their washing machine. They had an LG front loader that when filling with water, would do so by adding a little water in every few seconds. This pulsing made the water heater thing there was a problem and it would shut itself off and they would have to go into the attic to reset it. 4951
