>> Ted Cruz introduced a bill to use the $14 billion seized from "el chapo " the drug dealer for the Wall. Great idea. Boom paid for. Who knew drug dealers could make that much money.
@sweetie: That is a great idea but I doubt they will do it because it makes to much sense.
@Metro07: It really isn't a "great idea". First of all, that money isn't in the governments hands as most of it(his property and cash) is in Mexico and they are certainly not going to just give it to the US because we said so, they will hold onto whatever they can get their hands on. Secondly, the bill is very open ended(from what I understand) which means if they don't get the money from El Chapo they can pull the money from local and state busts and civil seizures(which is already a crap system) thus draining local and state police departments of much needed funds. If they actual do get some money/assets from the El Chapo proceedings(or some other major federal bust) then sure, put that on the table, but to waste time on a bill based on money nobody is sure is coming? Pure theater. Â
@frebu:
We really don't even need say el chapo money.  We seize large amounts of drug  money on a daily basis to use for a project like that.
@Metro07: Yes.........that was the second part of my statement. That money/property traditionally goes to the agency that did the bust to support their department/agency. Under Ted's plan that money would be pulled out of local/state police leaving them with less money overall to do the job. It will basically allow the federal government to bleed police departments forever, meaning less training, less equipment and less officers........all around not a positive outcome. 4951
