I am having a hard time finding someone to test my 14 year old son for aspergers. Either they don't take my insurance or they aren't  taking new patients.  Does anyone have any information that might help? Like a good Dr I can look into? I really need to get this done as soon as possible.Thank You 4951
Just FYI there is not actually a test per se for Asperger's. As a matter of fact the dx of Asperger's has been removed from the last revision of the diagnostic manual. Wherever you go you will have to provide reports from school( teachers, counsellors, IEP if he has one), Doctor reports ( your doc should have notes in his files about your concerns and his observations.Going to a psychiatrist is not a one and done thing- he will need to observe him many times. I actually think you'd be better served to contact a therapist and have your son see him. That's how we started. My son was having behavioral issues and the school asked that we have him seen. After a couple of months our therapist suggested a psychiatrist. I will say in these days 14 years old is a bit old for an autism dx. My son was borderline and I knew something was wrong at birth. He was seeing specialist from birth- we started adding psych at age 6. At 14 there are so many hormones going wild that it could be anything!Good luckMy son sees Dr Sunkareddi. I like him but I have to say ( lived here for 15 years) I have not found a good therapeutic psychiatrist- Dr S is great for us at managing my ds' meds. Also there is no med for Autism- drugs are prescribed to Autistic kids who manifest other psychiatric problems- I pray you do not have to go down THAT road 😢PS- maybe a psychoneurologist?? My son saw a neurologist at age 5- he got his first dx of ADD from him 4951

We have had teachers tell us he has signs of autism. We didn't get help for him because he did so well in school. Now that he is in high school he is having many issues. Socially academically and structurally. It's hard to even get him to approach his teachers or not walk away when they talk to him. I just want to get him help for his needs. Thank you for your suggestions. 4951
I would start with a therapist and see what they say after a few visits. I have one I would recommend, but he is in Conroe. I am sure there are great ones in Kingwood too. 4951
As an elder I sometimes wonder how many of us survived to our current age without all this concern about any type of behavioral problems as a teenager. Maybe weren't just aware of these problems? We were just being kids, teenagers or rebels at that age? I feel I my children all turned out just fine. 4951
He doesn't have any behavioral problems as far as rebellion or just being a kid. Actually that is some of the issue. He isn't like your so called " average" child. He is the best son I could ask for. I will just have him seen and hope they get a few words out of him. He doesn't like to talk to people he doesn't know but I know they can help with that. 4951
